  • Bronze alloy for brilliance and long life

Martin MSP4100 Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings are made from a 92/8 composition alloy to give that brilliance, clarity, and longevity of sound required by serious guitarists. The phosphor bronze winding alloy is ideally suited for making strings that have deep, rich basses and clear, bright trebles that today's acoustic guitarists demand. Martin strings are high-quality strings designed for daily use. Martin acoustic guitar strings are wound to precise specifications. Core and wrap wires must meet strict requirements to make the grade.

These strings were recommended by my luthier and now use them exclusively on both my Ovation and Takamine accoustics. They have a warm, yet bright tone and last for a long time. My luthier suggested these specifically since I'm an older guitar player with not-as-nimble hands and frequent sore fingers. These do nicely!

I'm by no means an expert but I have played guitar for a good few years now and I am confident that Martin are a cost effective brand that gives real quality. I was a bit nervous about moving from my usual bronze coated strings to phosphor bronze but it has been a great decision. Whether I'm playing in my room by myself or in an auditorium full of people, phosphor bronze strings seem to just fill up the space with a great sound! If you're like me and have used the same strings again and again - try these, they're definitely worth it!

My Taylor 414 has been kind of a pain, tone-wise. I bought it for the legendary quality playability, construction, precision, and promise of longevity at a very good price. It always sounded a little thin and flat however compared to most of the pricier Martins (all variations of the D28 and D35). Well, after trying the D'addario EXP Lights and the stock Elixirs, these Martin SP Lights make my Taylor sound more woody, open, natural and most importantly, are so engaging that I want to keep playing the guitar. That's the whole point right? The high E and B strings of both the Elixirs and D'addario's "plonk" out. They have no sustain and "fleshy-ness" to them. These Martin SP strings do though. Any note played on these higher strings immediately conjures the tones heard on Grateful Dead tunes like Friend of the Devil and Ripple. The bottom end is deeper, the tone is sweeter, and ultimately, they make my Taylor sound and feel very natural.UPDATE: 7-9-2015I wanted to update this review by saying that these are the best sounding strings I've used to date with one exception, they don't feel as smooth as Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze strings or any of the John Pearse Light sets I've tried. Truly a conundrum! You can't have it all folks!

I placed these Martin Acoustic strings on my daughters child-sized pink acoustic guitar we bought from Toys r Us for $20 on black Friday. Suddenly, the little wooden box came alive! These strings turned her little toy into a real live musical instrument! She even started singing like Stevie Nicks, played the piano like Elton John and transformed into Carrie Underwood before my eyes!! Then, the strings created butterflies and rainbows from whence the music came - like raindrops falling upwards on the backs of the beautiful notes she played! Oh... wait. Maybe I shouldn't have had that Seattle "brownie". Anyway, these strings are amazing!! Martin is the best!

When I went to change strings on my guitar I noticed that the flap on the side of the box was open. There were only three strings in the box - the 4th, 5th and 6th strings. I then looked at the low rated comments for this product and saw that a number of other people had also only received three strings. Unfortunately I had ordered these in August 2014 and not tried to change strings on my guitar until December, so I can't return them. At less than $6.00 for the box it's not a great financial loss, but still irritating. Now the old strings are off my guitar and I don't have any new strings.

Sometimes it feels like you pay a little more for a name, but then again, Martin has largely earned their reputation in the acoustic guitar business. These strings offer a nice balance that gives you a good bright sound and reasonably nice resonance and tone. Naturally, the strings are only half of the equation, putting great strings on a lousy guitar with a bent neck will only get you so far. These sound great on my old-school Epiphone acoustic (one that was built in the early 1980s), and reasonably nice on my beater guitar, a Jasmine by Takamine.Obviously, the nicer the guitar, the better any string will sound, and on a high-end guitar, especially when you're out for a gig, these would sound pretty nice. For the novice who might be re-stringing a guitar for the first time, remember that it takes a little while to break the strings in (where they'll stay in tune after playing for a bit). The other main thing that I will point out is, if you're like me, you might not really have access to a good music store nearby, the price on these is excellent compared to buying them in the shop.

Exceptionally good strings. They're not coated, don't have special resistant chemicals, etc., they're simply beautiful phosphor bronze voiced strings. I use them exclusively on a Koa topped Martin and they are resounding. Deep enough for stand alone baritone sound and crisp and clear at the top end. I'm very hard on my guitar, I play a solo show setup, guitar in hand for sometimes 3+ hours at a time and these strings rarely ever break. Keep a good, sanded bridge and nut and there's little these thin guys won't stand up to.[...]
