Well designed. Good quality wood and fittings. Nicely finished. Not as big as I thought it would be or too heavy. The carry bag is a plus. The box is very sturdy on the tripod, which has a nice ratchet mechanism and secure lockinglever, so you can angle how you wish. Well worth paying the extra for the tripod, which is a bit beefier than a standard photo tripod. Make sure when you lift the lid of the box, that you slide the wooden arm at side back, so that your canvas is supported sturdily from behind. Excellent value for money. Well done to MEEDEN!

Easy to set up and carry. I hooked another strap on it to carry the tripod with it. Very sturdy, paint fits in well. I carry other things either in the bag with the box or another easy to carry bag. Very stable when painting and easy to adjust for variances in both size of painting and to get the legs adjusted for unlevel surface. Easy to use out on rocks near a river and it won't slide. Like it very much.

There are 2 pieces to this purchase.#1 the pochad or paint box and #2 tripod that is designed to hold the paint box. Last week I received the Meeden L5 pochad with the tripod. I have found several difficulties when trying to set up the pochad as well as the tripod. I enclose several photos of the problem and my temporary fix..First the pochad. At least two of the knobs that are used to position the support arms cannot be tightened. The problem is that the machine screws turn in the hole when the knobs begin to thread in. As you can see in the attached photos, I have jury-rigged them by using a nut that I threaded onto the machine screw. I removed the machine screws and added split washers to the machine screw heads. Then I tightened the nuts against a split washers on the opposite sides. Unfortunately while the knobs now tighten against the nuts, there is no way of moving the support arms into painting positions unless I loosen the nuts, position the arms to a painting position and retighten the nuts. This means I need tol carry a wrench with me. And this renders the knobs useless. My efforts are shown in the first two photos. Then to the Tripod. The entire head assembly was loose. As is apparent from the photos, one of the attaching machine screws was missing. The only way I could get the head assembly stable was to again jury-rig a machine screw and washer assembly as shown. Again the last 2 photos show the before and after.I contacted the supplier Meeden, about these problems, hoping to get a rapid response. I have received a couple of emails from the company, first not understanding my problem and then suggesting that they have never had that problem with the pochad. They offered no solution to the pochad problem Then They suggested that I just go get a machine screw to fix the tripod.I just rec'd an email from Medden. It states that they no longer support the product. And that I may have rec'd a repaired one from Amazon's supplier or that Amazon may have repaired it themselves.

I cannot compare this product to anything since it is my first pochade, but it was not too hard to assemble it and the tripod is really well made, I do find the sturdiness a bit wobly, but I don't intend to knock it around, so it works good for me. The wood is nice and everything looks well mad... regarding durability only time will tell.

I absolutely LOVE this pochade box and easel. It travels well, sets up easily, and holds my supplies. The travel cases are wonderful; sturdy and protective. I've taken it traveling several times and it is still like new. The tripod adjusts six ways from Sunday. Perfect for setting up on uneven terrain. It is an excellent product at a reasonable price.

I like the pochade. I struggle with the tripod. The center column is very unstable. It does not function as designed. You can not extend it and have it stay where you put it. Instead, it slides back down to the base position. In a never-ending struggle to function correctly, it is now tightened to the point where it will take a hammer to move it. I will rate the pochade itself, not the tripod. I could not find the pochade without the tripod, or I would have purchased just the pochade tripod that gets a clear rating of 1! I bought this for the pochade, not the tripod. I have lots of great tripods. The pochade seems to be well constructed. The woodwork is very nice. I would repurchase this.

Affordable, durable pochade. Great value for the money: pochade, tripod, towel rack, wet paint carrier and carrying case. It makes up for the years I’ve spent seeking an affordable paint box that didn’t come with excessive shipping and duties. Despite the weight of the added storage, the box is surprisingly sturdy mounted upon the tripod. The wood palette slides out which is useful if you paint with knives and need to get a better angle grip. Standard brushes will not fit in this box, so you may want to invest in some smaller brushes to keep in the box at the ready. The brush tray clips to either side which is a nice touch. Overall, very happy with this product.

I purchased the complete set, the pochade box and the tripod. The tripod is something I really like, it has a leveling indicator and small compass for help in setting up. The legs extend and I have yet to fully extend because I don’t need it to be much higher than my waist. The downside with the tripod is that for the size of the pochade box on top, the legs do not flatten enough to render the unit stable. The weight and size of the box on top of the tripod renders the entire unit very top heavy, and though it works well on level ground and inside, it presents a problem when you are outside on very irregular terrain. I have been able to get the tripod level by using the leg extension and level indicator easily enough, but with the box on top it becomes very unstable. The biggest problem I’ve had was when the wind comes up from the back side of the box, it is large enough to catch the wind and blow the entire assembly over. Either the legs need to extent wider or it needs to be staked to the ground to prevent the unstable condition.I like the size of the pochade box, it is easy to transport and holds just about everything I need to paint with in the carrying case. The towel holder is a neat idea, but it does not fit snugly on the box and I found that just hitting it lightly will knock it away from the box...I will try some felt material on one side to see if that helps. The cover for the lower compartment where canvases are stored also is easily knocked off. More of a nuisance than a problem.I don’t plan to return the box, because I still like it’s size and design. But some enhancements would be recommended to improve the stability.

this package deal was quite reasonably priced.it is also quite attractive. i LOVE that it includedthe tripod and came with carry bags for both thetripod and pochade box. i desperately wanted togive this item high marks. the main and prevailingissue is that the tripod is unsteady at best (when i wasable to position it ...that one time).....and unusable atworst (the plate connection between the box and tripod wouldnot lock in place and tighten). sigh. beautiful design, but unusable.maybe purchasing the box solo with a better tripod would work best.had to return it. but i'm rating it a 3 for the design alone.
