Looks well-made, most things I get from Melling are well-made. I'll be installing it on a 2003 Dodge RAM 1500 5.9l V8 that is (and hopefully will no longer be) suffering from low oil pressure and a top-end tick from oil starvation. The only thing I wish it had was the gasket, but that's nothing I can't do myself and a trip to AutoZone or OReilly's.Altogether 5/5, is exactly what it described it was, a High Volume Oil Pump.

Great pump. easy install. Does its job. original oil pressure was 35-40 idle and 55 highway now its 40-45 idle and 65-70 hwy. I have a 94 grand Cherokee with the 5.2 v8. I notices my engine temp is below 200 at idle but climbs towards 210 easier at around 75mph+. Assuming its because its having to put more load on the engine to pump that much oil quick. Great for wheeling at low speeds because its cooler! Not so good for long hwy drives in the summer.

I installed this a few weeks back on my ram because I felt it probably would need it. With 300000 miles on the original 360 gas engine, I had heard the oil pumps go without warning and I figured it was high time to replace it. Well. It had already been replaced with an identical high volume pump. God knows when. The old one was working just fine. But the pickup tube on the one I replaced wasn’t as good as the pickup tube (sold separately) that melling now sells. But it’s an easy installation on a 2 wheel drive. 4x4 not so much. But the 2 wheel drive was simple. Just remove the oil pan, it’s two bolts holding on the oil pump, stick the oil pump on, HOLD IT TIGHT AND LEVEL AS YOURE PUTTING THE BOLTS IN, or else you could crack the shaft and destroy your engine. I hand threaded them as tight as I could, then took my wrench, and alternated turning the bolts 1/4 turn at a time until it was tight then torqued them down. Torque the bolts down at 30 lbs ft. I used a non marring plastic blade (looks like a black plastic razor blade) and scraped the oil pan mating surface so there was no gasket left over. The plastic blade isn’t sharp enough to gouge the aluminum but is sharp enough to scrape away and old gasket maker that’s left over. I also used some black 90 minute permatex gasket for the corners of the gasket. Anywhere where different metals met to make sure that it was water tight. You will see what I’m talking about when you pull your gasket off. I used a felpro OS 34409 R gasket for my oil pan. I just bought a new oil pan since this one had dents and is already seeping oil so I’m about to do this process again, minus the pump.

I didn't like the fact that the pump arrived with a damaged seal. I was forced to bypass the return window because I had to save the money to install it

Good pump with high volume capacity. It's within 2 or 3 psi of the Mopar Performance High Pressure spring kit, so you could also consider it high pressure if you wanted to. Adding a high pressure spring would be a waste of my money, in my opinion.Mine went into a 99 5.9 magnum engine, and it had no clearance issues or fitment problems of any kind. Pressure at idle is about 50 cold and then goes down to 40 warm. Holds around 70 at 2k rpm. The previous pump was about 30 at idle and maybe 40-45 at speed. Engine has about 300k miles on it. I mostly bought it because I was replacing the pan gasket and it was just good policy while I had it apart. It usually pays to disassemble and check the tolerances in all oil pumps nowadays before you install. This one was barely in spec and was noisy on startup and after warming, which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 5. The QA at melling isn't what it used to be. So, I'm keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn't grenade my engine. So far so good.

I haven't installed it yet, but the quality seems very good. Only bought this exact model because my Canton oil pan and pickup recommends this one, if anything is wrong I'll update this but if I don't then just assume everything worked out perfectly
