The item reviewed is a Neo-Pure PS-45097 10 x 4.5 Standard Efficiency Pleated Filter RED gasket 10 micron.I will preface this review with saying my water well is sandy. I use a $30 whole house filter that is rated for 6 months. I only get 3 months of good, pure filtration out of those expensive filters, so I did not have a high expectation for this filter at all. This filter was an experiment for me and it failed terribly.After 1 week, sediment and sand film was on and in every surface throughout the house plumbing. Upon examination of the PS-45097 once removed, only the first 1/2 inch (center) of the filter showed signs of sediment removal. It was as if no flow was reaching the outer layers of the filter.Although this filter would never be effective enough for my application, I am not confident it would be effective in any application.

There is an end cap table, by color, indicating the micron rating for filtering. This is red, at 10 micron, pretty much right between sediment filters at 20 and carbon filters at 5 micron. The paper pleats expand the filtration area, and the mesh grid encompassing the filter provides strength to the filter material. Should work in many whole house filters. Replace in 6 months.

This is a 10-micron water filter for our home. It fits perfectly, is stopping impurities from our city water, and maintains a great flow rate. After replacing an old filter, this one fit seamlessly and is effectively doing its job. I would definitely purchase it again.

My well has two filters. One this size that catches the bulk of what's in the water and a second one twice the size that I put a much finer filter in. About twice a year I'll change out the prefilter while the fine filter can last years before needing to be replaced. 10 micros is really not fine enough to be used as the only filter for your house's water system. If this is your only filter I would get something finer.

The filter works great to remove sediment from our well before treatment as house supply.
