Soft ice makers are temperamental beasties; you have to keep them clean and descaled, and even then it’s more suited to households with maniacs like myself to keep them running. They like to make all sorts of odd noises if you don’t adhere to a strict cleaning schedule, and a proper teardown is needed every 6 months or so to get them REALLY clean. That inside reservoir can become a real horror story… but I digress. When I started to hear this nasty rattle coming from our GE Opal I assumed it was overdue for a full cleaning. However, this did not fix the noise. During the cleaning process I noticed that tapping the fan made the sound go away momentarily and the coin dropped; the fan bearings were dying.Fortunately the 120mm fan was fairly standard, and I quickly found the exact replacement… 2 for 10 dollars(!). Super cheap… and it was clear that only a year or two would have me having to use that second fan. I also found plenty of reports that a fan with more airflow would improve the ice making performance, which let me to search for a better fan.Noctua fans always had a good reputation amongst PC case builders, so I decided to see if any of those would do the job, and came across this fan; faster RPM then the OEM bulk fan, longer MTTF (mean time to failure). Yes, 1 fan for US$32.00 (when I purchased it) versus 2 fans for 10-12 bucks is steep, but if you’re already dropping the kind of money for an Opal? (Shrug emoji)Since the opal uses a 2 pin connector it did require that I swap the plugs (not for the faint of heart) and I suspect I’ll need to tweak that to a better connector (those plastic connectors are finicky and delicate). I clipped the third line so it wasn’t exposed, plugged it in… and the fan worked perfectly. Some reviews have noted the fan as being somewhat loud at full speed, but I couldn’t hear the fan over the sound of the compressor at all. After several months of that gradually increasing sound the machine was back to it’s relatively quiet operation.I’ve been running it now for two weeks, and I can confirm that ice is being made much faster than it was before; I know it would sometimes struggle in the warmer summer months, so I’m looking forward to seeing how well it performs then!

Because this fan is designed to move relatively large volumes of air it isn't as 'silent' as other Noctua fans, but nevertheless it is very quiet. I'm very impressed

The only industrial thing about these is the sound, they're loud at higher RPMS. The seem to be great and have a very high static pressure but just too loud. I'm basing my opinion on a comparison i did with three other fans i had and this is by far the loudest. Very solid part but just not good for a silent.

This fan is quieter than I expected and moves a good amount of air, even though a dense CPU heat sink.

Lives up to the expectations I have for Noctua. This is a high airflow fan that is installed into my ReadyNAS Pro6 to increase its airflow due to the location I keep this in. The 3 pin fan that is voltage controlled by the NAS's OS so it doesn't spin up unless necessary so its as silent as the other more 'normal' Noctua fans but with the added maximum potential of 2000rpm, very good CFM flowthrough and high static pressure created an excellent cooling solution in the tight confines of my ReadyNAS Pro6... highly recommended
