The Carry Speed MagFilter Adapter Ring extends the possibilities with your compact camera. This is because this adapter allows you to use filters with a filter size of 52mm. This allows you to increase your creativity by playing with different filters such as a polarisation filter, a grey filter or an infrared filter. The MagFilter Adapter Ring is designed for compact cameras with an extendable lens. The adapter can be attached to the lens by means of a magnetic ring that can be clicked onto the far end of the lens. The adapter is suitable for compact cameras whose outer part of the lens has a diameter of 52mm.

This is a great product; the metal gives it a nice quality feel. The polarizing lense looks great when fitted to the front and the lense hood I added works well also. It's nice to have it so easily put on or off. I used a separate little pouch for the lense and collapsible hood so that I could still carry everything on my belt. That's really the point of the RX100; you don't want to compromise the compact portability.HOWEVER, if you brush the lense with your hand or against something it's going to come off. The magnet is strong enough most of the time, but it's a magnet after all. While taking pics on a train, the person in the seat in front of me found my filter; I didn't even know it had come off. I always felt like it was something I'd done wrong when it came off, but it did come off quite a bit. The last time I was on a boat and everything went into the ocean. I may just replace it and try to be more careful.

I read lots of reviews before buying this adaptor mostly good but some not so. I understand the range of opinions now that I've used it but overall I love it. It's easy to fit, although a centralising tool like that supplied with the Sony filter would help, and it does the job very well. I now use a 10 stop ND filter on my RX100m3 and I'm delighted with the results. I've also bought a polarising filter but I haven't used it yet. The filter attaches easily and for straightforward shooting sessions it's great - simple to put on, use, take off and easy to carry around. I can understand why people might not be keen on leaving it on the camera for long periods. I found that whenever you switch the camera off the lens retracts and any filter attached to the adaptor falls off. I quickly learned to take the adaptor off the camera before switching the camera off so this is no longer a problem for me. It's easy to slip back on when I need it again. The magnetic ring which stays on the camera permanently is tiny and hardly noticeable and I quite like the carrying case that comes with the adaptor - though it could do with being a bit bigger to allow the adaptor with an attached filter to fit more easily.

I was wondering how well this would hold on the front of my Sony RX100 II. Pocket camera are not designed for add on lenses. Well, after watching the U-Tube install video, I applied the very thin steel/adhesive ring to the camera. It is not even noticeable! I then attached the magnetic adapter ring and a filter and stepped out onto the patio to take an out door shot with a filter on a pocket camera. Finally, we can take top end pocket cameras up a notch! Having the ability to put a UV and Circular Polarizing Filter on a pocket camera is the final step of making them perfect. It works fine. The filter is attached, and I'm not afraid of it falling off or coming loose. The quality of the filters is the next factor, but I'm very pleased. It will take filters and macro lenses and take a high quality pocket camera to new dimensions. We take a lot of outdoor pictures and improving skies and getting rid of haze will make my camera experience even better. Fear Not this product is a WINNER!

I recently bought an Olympus Stylus 1 and then a Sony RX 100 II (due to the shortcomings of the Olympus but that's another story). Unfortunately neither camera has provisions for using filters and I use a polarizing filter relatively often and an ND filter not as often (but will be now considering Sony's 1.8 lens that I want to take advantage of). This is really an elegant solution for the Sony (but doesn't fit on the Olympus). I had serious concerns about fit and aesthetics initially but finally bit the bullet and ordered it. Wow, once the magnetic ring is glued on, you can hardly tell it's there without looking closely - looks great!Functionally, it also works great. The ring itself is only about 0.030" thick and about 3/16" wide but is magnetically strong and holds the threaded ring very securely. When mounted, the magnetic ring holds the threaded ring in place very firmly allowing the polarizing filter to turn on its own - just like in a "real" mount.Having said all that, the first one I got had damaged threads and wouldn't accept a filter, so I returned it and ordered another which works just fine.

I recently purchased a Sony RX100 compact camera from Amazon for my bicycle touring adventures. Because I take so many pictures and video outdoors, the conditions require a polarizing filter for undesirable glare from non-metallic surfaces (such as reflected sunlight and/or glare from water, fields heavy-laden with dew, road surfaces, glass, etc.) and a variable ND (neutral density) filter for video in strong direct sunlight on the subject. However, the Sony RX100 body/lens does not provide female threads to adapt filters. Ugh!So, I also purchased from Amazon a THREADED MagFilter (from Carry Speed) 52mm adapter for my Sony RX100 and screwed my Nikon 52mm polarizing or Genus ND filter on it. The compatibility of these wedded products yielded an ideal match with beautiful results, both for still and video captures. The MegFilter's kit comes with a carrying pouch (with belt clip), two metal adhesive rings, and the MagFilter's main adapter body. The adhesive metal ring is easily attached to the Sony RX100's body (see the Carry Speed Mag Filter's video how to do it). Purchase includes two of these metal rings. One of them is a spare or to apply to another camera. The adhesive metal ring is very thin, and when applied correctly, you will not even know that it is an add-on. Next, the MagFilter's main adapter body attaches to the metal ring by strong magnets built into the MagFilter adapter body. Then one simply screws the filter of their choice into the MagFilter's main adapter body. When I shoot indoors, I simply place a 52mm lens cap on my filter and store the entire ensemble in the MegFilter's carrying pouch for safekeeping. You cannot get it much easier than that!I mentioned beforehand that I use the Nikon 52mm circular polarizing filter (also purchased from Amazon in February 2011). It is thinner and weighs less than that of its main competitor, the Hoya HRT 52mm polarizing filter, which I also own. Both polarizing filters are very good; however, the Nikon polarizing filter contrasts and saturates colors a little (emphasis on "little") more in conjunction with the Sony RX100 camera. Results may vary depending on which camera is used with which filter. For example, I cannot see a noticeable difference under ideal conditions between the Hoya and the Nikon 52mm polarizing filters mounted on my Nikon D7000. The biggest difference I have detected between these two polarizing filters is when I am trying to capture a landscape with haze or lingering light fog with the Sony RX100 or Nikon D7000. The Nikon polarizing filter wins every time. The filter allows sharper detail in the landscape by effectively removing reflecting light from the haze or fog without making the precious image appear flat. Thus, the pictures are richer and betray greater depth.I have not yet tested extensively the Genus GL GNDF-52 ND 52 mm circular filter to offer an informed opinion. However, I will say that when I shoot outdoor video in very strong sunlight (taking in account other factors such as desired depth of field and/or the sunlight's angle on the subject), I exclusively use the Genus ND filter and NOT the Nikon polarizing filter. So, if you have purchased a compact camera like the Sony RX100 that lacks native filter adaptability, then I cannot recommend more highly than the THREADED MagFilter. Also, do not forget to purchase an extra lens cap if you will simultaneously be using different filters on several cameras like I do.The MagFilter Threaded Adapter is available in different sizes for different cameras. For example one would purchase the 49mm for the popular Canon Powershot S95/S100/S110), the 52mm/55mm/58mm sizes for the Sony RX100/HX9V/HX20V/HX30V compact cameras, as well as for the Canon G12 and Canon G15 cameras. I already had a 52mm Nikon polarizing filter (as well as other 52mm filters) for my Nikon D7000, so it was a simple choice for me to purchase the 52mm MagFilter for the Sony RX100.

I was worried how i could use filter on my Nikon P7000. I could install an extension tube but it make the camera a lot bigger. Whith the Carry Speed Adapter ring, only a thin metal ring is glued to the lense. The lense extend and retract as usual. The adapter ring snap to the glued metal ring when you need it. Easy to remove. The camera can be inserted into the same bag as before. When you need a filter, you screw it onto the adapter ring and snap the adapter ring to the camera. Easy. Works great. Very nice product!
