Out of the box, the probe plugged into my meter without any issues, and read a correct air and skin temperature. Although the thermocouple bulb is not in direct contact with the source, it is bonded to an aluminum throat plate that is - I'd expect that the larger contact area of the plate counteracts any thermal resistance than the thin shim would contribute, less than my meter can read, anyway (I tested this vs a Velcro wrapped probe and did not see a difference down of .1F). I will post updates if my opinion changes.

Works ok on larger pipes (copper). For 1/4 or 3/8 lines it's very inaccurate. Also I couldn't get good readings in the cold winter either. Summer it works fine outside

Bought this pipe clamp thermometer and absolutely love it! It works perfect I use it atleast 10 times a day for work! I am very happy with the product and the great price!! Even talked a coworker into buying one! Money well worth it!
