Arrived and was missing the temperature control knob. I tried it anyway to see if it would work as I had a job to do. I would not heat past 171 C; far to low for any plastic. In the end I just used my soldering iron and will order a new tip for it.

The welder even in the maximum temperature setting does not melt plastic. If the mesh is used, the heat is spread and getting worse. It said 80W which is pretty big as a welder but the measurement by power meter in its highest power setting and maximum power consumption is just 33W, showed in the photo. The same power of 80W plastic welder from Harbor Freight tool has twice of diameter of heating parts as this one and works like charm. This as 33w is just a junk but cheating as 80W.Such small body can only have 33w but no way to have 80W, determined by physical law.I raised the rating from 1 star to 4 stars. Before I through it away, I tried another time. It works well although it is 33w. I doubt the first time the power dial happened to sit in lower temperature accidentally? But I have no way to verify. Or the head was not tight enough as the other buyer said or it just need burn in? Anyway it works well over two projects later.

I used this to repair a broken housing on a vacuum cleaner. I had two failures before I figured out how important surface preparation is. The housing had a shiny hard coating that had to be completely removed with a Dremel tool before the melted plastic would stick properly. My only complaint is that I would prefer that the tool got hotter; it takes more time than I would like to melt the plastic.

Second day using it, it broke off right at the top plastic part that holds the heating element inside. Little bit of pressure and it snapped like a twig.

Wrap a sheet of aluminum foil on the thread will bring the heat to the head much much faster! You will see this limped 30w welder improved from a rated 60w kit up to an 80w kit.

You get what you pay for, unless you order this, then you get 1, not 3, copper tip, that spins freely after 1 minute of use. The threads are fine, but where the threaded post connects to the flat end, it spins.
