Pressure cookers have experienced renewed popularity over the last several years because cooks have rediscovered what some cooks (particularly grandmas) have known for a long time--they're really fast. And it's easy to cook healthfully with pressure cookers, since the food retains so much more of its nutrients and flavor. Presto's 8-quart pressure cooker is a multi-purpose pot that can stand in as a conventional soup pot as well as perform the kitchen magic that pressure cookers are famous for. Chicken Cacciatore cooks in 8 minutes! And it's big enough for home canning, too. (The USDA recommends pressure canning as the only safe method for low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, and poultry.) This durable, polished-aluminum pressure cooker is an economical addition to any well-rounded set of kitchen tools.

The heavy-duty lid locks down during cooking; an inner sealing ring keeps the steam in. In addition to a pop-up pressure indicator and a simple steam release mechanism, there is an overpressure plug that will let off steam if it builds up excessively. This pressure cooker is useful for weeknight dinners or for any meal that needs to come together quickly. An accompanying booklet contains more than 65 recipes, ranging from basic soup stocks to stews and pot roast--even desserts like Oatmeal-Apple Crisp! Tenderize lean cuts of beef or pork; or cook chicken, fish, or vegetables faster than you can in a microwave, and without losing moisture.

Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this polished aluminum pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. The Presto 8-quart aluminum pressure cooker is fully immersible; in addition, the sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. The vent pipe is simple to keep clean with a small brush or pipe cleaner, and both the air vent/cover lock and the overpressure plug are removable. The pressure cooker measures 11-1/2 inches in diameter (17 inches including handles) and 9 inches tall (including lid). Presto guarantees this pressure cooker with an extended 12-year warranty. A detailed instruction and recipe booklet is included; special safety issues that pertain to pressure cookers are clearly explained. --Garland Withers

This is a nice pressure cooker. I rather preferred the srew in safety valve though. These rubber saety valves are alway getting stuck and the steam keeps coming out and then the jiggler wont jiggle till you get it untitlted stuck. Hopefully it dont finish poping out. So Just make sure your rubber safety valve is loose before you put the lid on to start the heat. And watch if it gets stuck to unstick it so your food will cook. They should never have changed that feature. And the - round - jiggler that had the choise of the pressure 5, 10 ,15 you wanted to use .

Locks tight, and cook time is fast. The pressure valve is heavy and stays in place, functioning as it should.

Putting the lid on this pressure cooker is a nightmare. It can take me several minutes to succeed. Other than that, it's aluminum, so no acidic foods unless you want to taste the presto as well. Works great for potatoes, beets, and other starchy root vegetables.

Well, OK..I admit that I am a lifelong fan of Presto pressure cookers, but they have outdone themselves with this one. It's absolutely BEAUTIFUL and it features new safety detains which look great. It does require some assembly skills and tools for the handled. For me this wad no problem, because I have worked with tools all my life, but I think that some people might have problems. So here are my recommendations... First, you will need a decent Philips head screwdriver.. Not too large and not too small and ddoesnt need to be professional quality.. Just "Mama Bear", OK? LOL I do not recommend that you use a power tool. You want to finesse the screws into place so that they do not bind or cross thread because then you will have a mess on your hands. What you want to do is drop the screw into its pocket, aligned with the receiver hole and then you should back the screw around counter-clockwise until you feel the threads align. THEN start to go clockwise.. Forward slowly and carefully until you can see that the screw is advancing down into the hole SMOOTHLY. If you feel that the screw is binding up and you can see that it still has a way to go, then STOP..Back out and start over. If you try to "gorilla-paw" the screw all the way, you risk screwing up everything! Also, do not try to bury one of two screws all the way down before you are sure you have the other one well started. If you just start the first screw and then start the second screw before tightening either one, then you will not end up with a mis-alignment which will likely result in a cross-thread and permanent damage. Now I also recommend that you do this all while seated and do the assembly on the floor, over a white sheet so that you don't lose any screws. You could also use a bed If you have trouble bending over to the floor. If your work area is on a counter top or table, a screw may fall and bounce when it hits the floor. In most such cases, it usually ends up that you will never see that screw or other tiny part ever again. Good luck! Oh! I forgot to mention that this pressure cooker does come with a rack and will accommodate 9 pint mason jars. No quarts!

So far it's worked great. Rack works well and doesn't reduce cooking space hardly at all. Rattler isn't annoyingly loud even watching TV in the next room, unless you have it boiling too hard. Thought I might find it annoying, turns out it's actually a great way to tell if it's working normally without having to get up. Handle wiggles a bit but it hasn't given me any trouble so far. As long as you know this isn't the same as a normal pot, you have to check on it a bit as it comes up to temperature, etc, you'll be happy buying this. One thing is that if, at the end of cooking, you press the emergency release to check for pressure, and there isn't any pressure, and it's wet with water, it just pops off inside. This is no big deal, you just rinse it and put it back in, and I could solve this by not being an idiot, so I can't count that against it.

This is a great value. I decided on the Presto after seeing that it cooks at 15lbs pressure and parts are avalable for it at my local homehardware, or online. Getting a new sealing ring can be a problem for PCs that are not as well know. I did look around at PCs locally and saw the aluminum vs stainless steel models. The best overall value seemed to be this model. I've cooked rice in it this afternoon and it turned out great, doing soya beans (for natto) tomorrow. Boiling the beans takes 5 hours, with this PC it should take 30 minutes tops. The 8-quart size is perfect. Means only filling to the 1/2 way make won't be as much of a problem. With free SS-shipping I bought it Wed night and received it Friday morning! Instant gratification! Yes, I need to get out more.
