I really wanted to love this radio.On first inspection it is very impressive. Connectors are of high quality. Everything just has a quality feel to it.Then you program it. I used the download software from the manufacturer. Setting options are practically nonexistent. There is no way to change the items displayed on the screen. The largest font default should ALWYS be to Channel Name. On this radio it is to Frequency and can't be changed. Most users, and especially GMRS users, don't want to see the frequency. They want to know what the channel is programmed to do. I contacted R-T Systems and asked if their premium software had more options. Their answer was, "Sorry. What you have there is all there is."I contacted Radioddity Tech Support to ask if there were any work arounds or firmware upgrades that would fix this. They said none available and none planned.I also found the display contrast very poor and difficult to read in most lighting conditions and impossible in some. I believe this may have been a faulty display in my unit. I can't believe a company would market a radio with such poor display visibility. Tech Support had no suggestions except to send it back to Amazon.Finally, the received audio quality is very harsh. I work with many brands of communications radios and this is the worst I have encountered.I returned the radio in favor of a different manufacturer's offering (at a lower price).

It's a good GMRS radio. I love the size of it, nice and compact. The only reason it did not get a 5 star is the USER MANUAL it pretty much useless however it gives you just enough to get up and running......the other thing the frequency chart in the back of the book are not U.S.A. or FCC frequencies. And I would like to see the screen be able to change colors. But other than that, it is a good small sized GMRS radio. The bad part is that on HIGH I'm only getting 25 watts so I'm sending it back. A friend of mine had the same problem sent it back and got one now that does 48 watts.

It does what it says on the box, and for that, it gets 5 stars. It is not, as some people say, difficult to program or navigate the menus, it was easy to program custom channels without the honestly poor radioddity bespoke software.Some things to be aware of, while this radio can receive in much of the UHF band, it will *only* transmit on the GMRS channels and custom channels programmed as such, and it will not let you transmit on the repeater input channels unless programmed as an offset for the receiver output channels. It also will not transmit on channels 8-14 as its power level does not go low enough to legally transmit on them.All of this is obvious to people who can read, and so I will not mark it down, but it would be nice to get a firmware option to "unlock" this radio for wider use, intended of course for emergency use only.

I went to their website to download the programming software and saw there was an update to the firmware. I downloaded and performed the update to the firmware and it ruined the radio. It will not transmit or receive on any channel and it just makes a clicking noise. I’m working with tech support to try and fix it and hopefully we can. However, it’s painful working with them due to it being against their religion to send more than one sentence a day. I did buy another one for mobile, and did not do the update and the radio is awesome. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this so I can use it for a base station at home. But until then, it’s a boat anchor.

I bought it for its looks really. I don't know much how to use radio nor do I intend to use it much.But I had a lot of fun putting panels, wiring, NMO to UFH mount and everything else together.Occasionally I turn it to the search mode I would pickup some chatter on different channels. I hope one day I would take my Bronco offroad somewhere that I could really use it as designed.
