I needed to throw together a pirate costume on fairly short notice, and I am glad I chanced across these costume trousers. They are a pretty good deal. Made of breathable 100% cotton, they are comfortable with a loose fit. Now, I went one size up from my normal size because I wanted a very baggy look, but I am confident they would still have been comfortable had I picked out my normal size. They are not particularly historical. They have pockets, and elastic waistband, and a drawstring. This is pretty normal for costume wear at this price point, so that's only to be expected. I wrapped a sash around my middle in any case, so no one could tell. But if you are going for a more serious impression, be aware that the elastic waist is always going to be a dead giveaway that this is modern. The legs come in tight, but not too tight. I found the lacings around the legs to be slightly annoying once I was wearing knee high boots as the laces rubbed against my leg. After I went ahead and removed the laces (I tied the bottom holes together) I had no more complaints, and the pants stayed tucked nicely. So I give these good marks, especially at their price point. They are comfortable, breathable, and well made enough that I am confident that I'll get more than wearing out of them. They also can fill in for a variety of costumes from piratical to renaissance, so I consider them a good deal.

Got it for a ren fair. There are shiney grommets on the pants. you can paint them to match the pants, or tuck them in to boots.Other than that, sew the pockets shut for authentic look. Or, you have two pockets. I washed them and line dried them. They are roomy as sweats but comfortable as pajamas.

Quality is decent sizes were decently accurate. For the price its not bad and did its job with a few days at the Renn Faire. Just wear it ahead of time to adjust the legs so they arent too tight when you crouch or sit

I like to live life a bit unusually, including how I dress. These pants fit my lifestyle very well, in particular when I'm doing my indoor rock climbing three days a week. They are nice and loose in the waist and thighs, but more secure in the claves, which works well for my climbing style. The light weight fabric feels comfortable and unrestrictive or hot. The fabric is too thin for outdoor climbing, but perfect for indoor rock walls which are much less abrasive. These also work well as pants in my kayak, protecting me from the Texas sun while being breezy themselves. I think we need to bring pants like this back for daily wear!

Does anyone have a period source on this design? As a professional costumer for 20 years and lifelong everyday-life history buff, I have no memory of such a structure, full legs into long cuffs that lace. Just saying that you shouldn't highlight these if you are going among actual historical re-enactors, except as a first-timer. They will forgive beginners a lot. But don't call these authentic. They just cover your lower body. But if historicity isn't a question, they're good! Around the house or history-bounding for the grocery run, great. Medievalesque LARPing, super. The trousers are cotton, which is comfortable in the heat while blocking sunburn. The fabric is light, more shirt weight than normal trouser weight, which means it isn't clumsy in gathers. It can pass as linen, as usual, but trousers usually would have been a heavier linen. What's not historical? Front pockets from the 1700s, with a cut from the 1800s, though perfect for your keys and mobile at a LARP. Elastic waist of the 1900s (it does not look like a drawstring waist, despite the tie in front, except to the wishful thinker, but it's comfortable when stooping and sitting). The real historical problem is the lower legs. Metal eyelets on clothing are an 1828 invention. Before then, eyelets are sewn/embroidered. You could cover the lower leg with a high boot, but with the lacing up the cuff, that can make you sore. You might as well put in a zipper and be comfortable, since you're hiding it.To quote Trystan L. Bass, at Frock Flicks, "Except metal eyelets and grommets were not used in outerwear in historical periods before the 20th century. Grommets were intended for underwear and shoes only." (A grommet is a big eyelet.)Y'know, people in medieval European history didn't lace up their clothes visibly nearly as much as pseudo-historical costuming would make you think. When they did, they almost never used X-lacing, like on a pair of frame shoes, or like here. That suits stiff leather. Almost all clothing fastenings were Z-lacing.And done with ribbon or cord, not straps like these, and, please, not leather thongs. The art of spinning was highly developed for thousands of years, from hair-fine linen sewing thread to heavy multi-ply cords. People were rarely out of contact with others so long or so far that they couldn't get a new cord from some village woman and, in a number of European cultures, men spun, too. Sewn straps like here are just outside history. It requires sewing thread that someone spun. You can get a cord lace the same place. If you must use these medievally because everything else is polyester, to which you are allergic (I have issues with it), go to a Viking baggy-pants look. Wrap the lower legs with a contrast fabric, over the top of your short boots, cross-garter over that with the straps from this, and wear a long-enough tunic to hide the upper problems.

I wore the Runcati Men's Medieval Ankle Banded Pants for a Viking costume, and they worked pretty well for what I needed. The cotton fabric was soft and breathable, which made them fairly comfortable to wear throughout the day. The loose, baggy fit gave the pants a simple, old-fashioned look that matched the theme. I liked the adjustable waistband and the lace-up cuffs—they added a bit of style without being too much. The pockets were useful for carrying a few small things. They stayed in place and didn’t feel restrictive, even with a lot of walking around. I didn’t have any issues with the material or stitching, and they washed fine afterward. I think they’d work for other costumes too, like a pirate or renaissance outfit. The sizing was accurate for me, but I’d still suggest checking the size chart. Overall, they’re decent costume pants that get the job done.

They're pretty soft and reasonably thin, which is good for renfaires in the southern US.They look good, just be aware (you might not see it very well from the product photos) that the crotch is very low-hanging.They even have pockets, which is pretty awesome!I normally wear 32W/30L pants and a large fits me well. Just a little tight on the lower legs, but that's a combination of design (these are meant to be tighter on the lower legs) and me being a cyclist so I have thick calves.
