See title. The only thing you can read at night is the LCD display with day/date.

This clock-radio, while nicely designed and built with good fit and finish, fails at the most basic task of a clock: showing the time! The hands on the analog face are neither backlit nor phosphorescent, so you cannot see them in the dark. The digital display shows the date, not the time. You can press a button to display the time, but it reverts to the date after five seconds, and there is no way to configure it otherwise. Therefore, when I wake up in the middle of the night, I cannot tell what time it is without pressing a button.The radio, on the other hand, sounds excellent for its size and tunes in local stations well. I recommend this as a desktop clock-radio to be used in the daytime, but not as an alarm clock.

The shape was the lead-in and then to read about all the features, the clock was placed in the cart. Happy with it - set-up easy and AM reception very adequate. Good looking and multi-tasking - BUT -up through the night and glanced at the time to fine NO HANDS were viewable! see photo... just the markers were illuminated but where were the hands to tell the time ?? - returning

I bought this Sangean RCR-29BK as a bedside clock radio. But the dial is not backlit, and the hands are not lit, so if the room is dark you can't tell the time from the clock face. There is a small digital display on the dial, and it is backlit and dimmable, but it displays the date, not the time. Support said they don't know a way to make the digital display show the time by default, and suggested I return it. So I did, and ordered the Sangean RCR-9, which does have a backlit dial which makes it better suited to be a bedside clock radio. I think the Sangean RCR-29BK would be fine as a clock radio for an office desk. where presumably the lights are on when you're there.
