Factory clutch started chattering at 117K because people will not learn to drive a manual transmission properly. (Just because you can get the vehicle to move doesn't mean you are necessarily doing it right). By 120K, it was slipping. At the time, I couldn't immediately get time off work, so I babied it for another 3 weeks. The point of all of this is, by the time I got to do the clutch replacement, I knew the original was cooked. Now, I'm not knocking any machinists out there, but when metal is heated up (overheated) and cooled that many times, it gets hard spots in it. A thinner, turned down flywheel can dissipate less heat.The point is, for the cost of a new flywheel, it saves running to a machine shop, coming back a day later, paying him in all likelihood half the cost of a new flywheel for the turning, and you may still have a damaged part. Flywheels have come down in price (like brake rotors) that it really is a no brainer to buy a new one.The ford factory flywheel had a LUK stamp on it. This is basically and OEM part. I saw no flaws, nor have any problems arisen in the 4 weeks since it has been installed.Installed LUK 07-179 clutch set with this flywheel.Repair manual says to replace bolts when removing/ installing flywheel. I did not. Just blue threadlocker on the old ones.The only downside to all of this is the new clutch system will engage about an inch off the floor. Still getting used to that!
