As many note, it's just a long 9/16" socket with a nut on the end, but there's little to no room to work where the fitting is. I don't like to buy single use tools but would buy one again. It was that helpful.

Works great and does its job. However, 25 bucks for a dep well 9/16 socket with a 3/4 (wrench size) nut welded on top makes the term and the charge (special tool) somewhat used car salesmanish. Just saying.

I have a multitude o 3/8 and 1/2 deep well sockets. None were quite long enough. I went to three auto stores. None were long enough. The problem is that that when you turn the brass fitting, you are turning the entire cable sheath up to top of boat. That is a lot windup. if you release the fitting it unwinds. The stem on the cable fitting has to stick up inside the hole of your 5/8 socket. This tool is simply a 3/8 drive deep well socket with a 5/8 wrench size nut welded to the top.

Old style cables mount inside the gimball housing. the upgrade cable mounts from the rear. (LOL). You will need a 1/4 NPT tap from Harbor Freight to thread the gimball housing, on the rear side. They have a nice set with three taps and three dies for only 10 bucks. In a nice wood box.

As advertised. Shipped fast. But I found out after opening the package this is nothing more than a deep 9/16" "sparkplug" socket you can get about anywhere for $6. Just remove the rubber piece inside the sparkplug socket and the shift cable extension fits right thru. SEI makes a great sterndrive for a really great price. I guess they need to charge extra on tools to make up for it (?)
