These are basically as essential upgrade. They can be installed dry, but having done it both ways I recommend you use the factory recommend grease by Cal's. Smooth as silk and reliable on big fish!I recently pulled apart a torium 20 to service these plates after 2 seasons and about a dozen bluefin from 40 to 70 pounds and closed it back up because everything was in perfect order.
