Took me three tries buying this brush before I finally got one worth keeping. The first one was really soft and smooshy, didn't hold a point. The second one felt more like it was supposed to but the ferrule was really loose and the whole thing wobbled every time I used it. The third one is better than I'd ever expect for the price. Holds a nice point, great belly, can't tell the difference between this and a more expensive brush. It's just unfortunate that there's such inconsistency in quality. You never know what you're going to get.Update: Ordered another one cuz when it's nice, it's really nice. Got another dud. This time I'm including a few pics. All of the bad ones I've gotten have had problems similar to this.

i honestly can’t figure out where all the reviewers in the older comments found fault in this brush. none of what they mention has been the case — it could certainly be quality improvements between 2015 and 2022, but these brushes are wonderful.the only thing that personally doesn’t suit me is the length of the handle. other than that, the bristles are soft, springy, and hold a beautiful point.Silver Brush also makes two other red sable brushes; the 7100 and the 7100S Rennaisance — i personally prefer these two over the kolinskies (shockingly) but all three of these outperform the Winsor & Newton Series 7 by miles.

This is a pretty nice sable brush, especially for the price. The only thing about the one I received that was a bit annoying was that there was a single hair that was too long on the end. Other than that, it is soft with decent spring, holds a fair amount of water and is excellent for making fine lines and painting fur or foliage. It performs better than many of my far more expensive sable brushes. A good affordable alternative to the more expensive brands, especially for a beginner. I will say I do prefer the Renaissance line from Silver Brush over these, though.

I had one of these before but never realized how great it was until I stated working on a 3 month mural project. This became my go to brush. It looks big but it comes to such a fine point you can use it for practically everything. I usually do pencil art, so no painting expert...but, I thought it was great...and bought a smaller one just to have.

Amazing brush. Handmade in Germany like a Da Vinci Maestro brush. Nothing synthetic compares to real kolinsky sable like this brush. I got a size 7 round and it’s very sharp. I would compare this to any brush from W&N, Da Vinci, or Escoda. The price is better than average too.

Who wouldn't love a Kolinsky Sable brush? And now that the US government has banned their import, they're impossible to find. Get them while they're still around. This is a brush you'll still have when you're 84 if you take care of it.

I was so excited to finally purchase my first sable brush and decided to buy from this company of brushes because of the affordability and also because the on line art stores like Blicks didn't have any in stock. When I used it it was difficult to get it to hold it's point, and when dry, fans out and won't hold it's shape. I don't know if this is true for all sable brushes but from the research I did, I didn't find this to be true.I still use the brush and it holds moisture fairly well so I will keep it but I keep finding myself going back to my old favorites.I just bought a new set of Red Sable brushes in smaller sizes here on Amazon by DaVinci, and it is a 5 brush set. Let's hope this is better, because I can't afford $200 for a paint brush!!!
