Reduced wall thickness helps improve access to fasteners in restricted areas. All Impact sockets feature one through hole and a groove to accept a retaining ring and pin to secure the socket to the power tool anvil. Chamfered service ends for quick and positive fastener engagement. Proto 6 Point Impact Sockets are ideal for use on stubborn or damaged fasteners and also on fasteners made from soft materials. The Torque Plus design is a high performance drive configuration which allows for quick and easy socket engagement to the fastener flats, not the corners. The Torque Plus configuration employs a radius-corner design, shifting contact area and stress away from the fastener corners and distributing contact stresses over a large area of the socket, minimizing slippage. The Torque Plus internal design minimizes fastener rounding, helps to extend fastener life and allows the user to more easily turn worn, rounded, or rusted fasteners. Now that I have the socket in hand, it's clear they took a photo of another size of socket, and just clone-stamped black over the number. The wall is not very thin either, so it was a double-whammy. Oof.

Be advised, this is NOT a thin walled socket. It's the same thickness as the Huskey unit from Home Depot and will not fit in tight spaces such as the output shaft nut area of a 4hp 22 transmission on a 528e.

It would be nice if they gave you these dimensions, so you can see in advance if it will work for you. I compared it to a Snap-On 30mm deep impact and found it to be about 1.25mm thinner in overall diameter. Amazon should include this type of information on their products: it would probably save then a lot of returns.

This socket is listed as a Thin Wall socket. I am not sure what they are comparing it to, but the one I had is thinner than this one. I needed the socket to remove a drive shaft flange on a BMW Z3. My existing thin wall socket had too large an outside diameter to fit inside the flange. This Stanley Proto socket has an even larger outside diameter. It is unusable for this purpose.

Definitely NOT thin walled. The socket arrived with a light coating of rusty oil/preservative. Stanley needs to change the description of this socket.
