Item is 'hardwood' as described, but has been stained and finished to imitate ebony. It is not actually ebony (hence the lower cost). Just be aware. I bought mine to have an 'example' - and the material is of high quality.

I bought it to replace for a 3/4 double bass but part was bigger. Cant place my pick upright because of it. Item itself seem of very good quality
