About this item

  • The Bio-Orb absorbs typical room lighting and CO2 during the day. Like a plant, The Bio-Orb requires daily light
  • At night in the dark, the Bio-Orb produces natural light (bioluminescence). Only during nighttime hours (after 7pm). Only while swirled
  • Filled with microalgae (living sea plants) that clean your air : add oxygen and removes greenhouse gases (CO2) and toxins
  • The Bio-Orb requires light to live (moderate to low light) like a house plant. !!!-Must be opened within 24 hours of arrival-!!!
  • Scientists estimate that microalgae, like these in the Bio-Orb, provide more than half the air we breathe

Product Description

Bio-Orb, bioluminescent, ocean light, pyrodino, algae, dinoflagellates

Living Light at Night

The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is a glass micro-aquarium that houses thousands of tiny plant-plankton (algae). Easy to care for - like a houseplant.

Grow the Glow

The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is an interactive night light, air purifier, object d'art, conversation starter and science lesson all in one classic glass sphere.

The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is a glass micro-aquarium filled with bioluminescent plant-plankton (algae). Easy to care for, like a house plant, the Bio-Orb will produce natural light at night (bioluminescence) when gently swirled.

Produces natural light at night with no batteries or electricity. Care and longevity are similar to a houseplant.

Produces fresh oxygen during the daytime while removing the greenhouse gas, CO2, from the air.

Filled with Bioluminescent plant-plankton (PyroDinos)

The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb fill at night

Hold the Ocean in your Hand

The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is a hand-blown glass sphere filled with bioluminescent PyroDinos (plant-plankton). All Natural- Seawater, Plankton and Glass. The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb will produce natural light (bioluminescence) at night when gently swirled.

Ocean Food Chain

The Bio-Orb contains seawater and tiny plant-plankton or single-cell algae called dinoflagellates. Dinoflagellates (PyroDinos) are a part of the plankton community and thus are the basis for the Ocean Food Chain. All ocean fish and mammals (including whales & dolphins) rely on plant-plankton directly or indirectly for their food source and energy. PyroDinos play a role in this food chain by converting sunlight energy into chemical energy (photosynthesis)

Fighting Climate Change

PyroDinos use sunlight as their main source of energy. PyroDinos use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide (CO2) and water. PyroDinos generate oxygen (O2) as a byproduct. Thus these little PyroDinos, as a part of the larger plant-plankton community, provide oxygen for us to breathe and help combat global warming by ‘fixing’ carbon (CO2) by removing CO2 from the atmosphere. Did you know that plant-plankton provide more than half the oxygen you are breathing right now?

Circadian Rhythm

Circadian Rhythm is defined as physical and behavioral change that follows a daily cycle. This cycle is programed by cycles of daylight and the absence of light. Did you know that you have a Circadian Rhythm too? During the dinoflagellate daytime cycle the only action taking place is photosynthesis. This means that dinoflagellates will not ‘light up’ and produce light (bioluminescence) during their daytime cycle. Interestingly enough their Circadian cycle can be modified over time (several days) by providing light at night and keeping them in a dark area during the day. Over time (several days to a week) they will adapt to their new light cycle.

Bioluminescence

Bioluminescence is the production of light by a living organism and occurs only at night, in the dark, when our PyroDinos are gently agitated and physically moved. Many other organisms produce bioluminescence. Some examples are fireflies, jellyfish, mushrooms and bacteria. Bioluminescence is caused by a chemical reaction between a light emitting molecule and an enzyme that are generically referred to as luciferin and luciferase. During and throughout the dinoflagellate nighttime cycle these light producing molecules are produced.

My son has been obsessed with bioluminescent plankton for many years, so when I saw this product, I just knew I had to gift it to him. It arrived yesterday, and we set it up immediately, reading the instructions carefully. We didn’t expect any glowing for a few days, but much to our surprise, not only could we actually see the plankton during the day, they started glowing immediately on the first night. They seem extremely healthy and happy, and we are so excited to keep our tiny plants alive. Thank you for the chance to have something so fascinatingly awesome in our home!!

I should add that it was summer and I live in Florida... but if your in a high temp area, I would think twice about ordering... I will probably reorder in the winter. - Thats assuming the 98 degree weather was the reason.

This product was shipped to Canada, it was for my niece’s birthday present. It only worked for couple days, despite following instructions. It cost us $120, plus a $12.99 shipping fee, and further more $20 duty fee.Contacted the company the sent replacement but it cost close to $40 to ship which we paid, now fedex is asking extra $53 which we refused to pay. As who knows if this will work. This gift cost to over $200 and is useless, I recommend not wasting your money.
