These seals prevent abrasives, corrosive moisture and other harmful contaminants from entering the machines.

This seal is far less robust than the metal-enclosed part that Toyota originally used for their 1990 Pickup - 2WD, Front Inner Seal. I went ahead and installed the Timken anyway because I need to get this truck back on the road, but I'm not pleased with the quality and don't feel confident. (UPDATE: Both of the Timken are going in the trash and I'm grabbing a couple of these instead: Beck/Arnley 052-2375)

The Timkin seal did not fit

I do not like the idea of a fitment tool to say this is a proper replacement just because it fits. It is properly sized but this 1997 Toyota hub requires a metal encapsulated seal to hub fitment not rubber as with these purported replacements. I tossed them out after getting OEM, and yes that was a lot of work but cheaper than a hub and bearing failure due to the seal dislodging from the hub and dumping grease or water contamination.
