We do guided trail rides and all of our horses & mules are in this hackamore. I’ve used it for 20+ years and it works for every breed. I’ve also ridden in hundreds of parades & performances in it. I like the engraving on this one but I remove all the nose bands and have a custom one made. I don’t like the buckle on the nose band and the fleece can be itchy on the horse’s face depending on heat/climate. I generally don’t care for the fleece so I remove that as well. Mechanics are A+. Just a couple tweaks to the details makes it perfect

This was SUPPOSED to be a kelly star and its a tough one. It was SUPPOSED to be dark oil amd its light oil very disappointed. Not worth the money AT ALL!

They are honest and you have no idea of color that is something that would benefit the seller to be able to choose a color the shanks are very nice and its made well but I will have to dye it black...….

Update: I take back what I said about the noseband being similar to other English hackamores I've owned in the past. If you plan to buy this, replace the noseband before you use it. The noseband came apart on a trail ride and I had to fix it with duct tape. I had planned to replace the nose anyway but that would take some time, and now that I've tested the one that came with it I can certainly say that it is dangerous to keep it as isI bought this despite the reviews saying the nose piece was terrible. In my experience with any English type hackamore, the nosebands suck on all of them. When received the nose was no worse than any other English type hack I've had. It didn't come with the dark oil color as pictured which is disappointing, but it's decent to say the least.Besides, the nose and can always be replaced. I plan to make my own. But for someone who may buy it and plan to keep it as is, I think for the price they should be getting what they see in the photo. As for the shanks, which is the real reason I bought the hack, they are really nice. About as strong as other English type hackamores, the engraving makes it look less ugly than a plan blank shank you'd normally find. I don't expect the chrome to last too long but that's alright.I can't say that my horse liked it since I know he rides well in these types of hackamores. The engraving makes no difference to the ride, it just looks a lit better than his old plan one.

Supposedly a Kelly Silver Star product- no, it's a pretty cheaply-made JT ""Royal King" made in India.Maybe JT bought the name of Kelly (used to be a good US company) but this is most assuredly NOT an American-made product, nor is it marked Kelly in any way. The leather noseband and chin strap is nasty Indian oiled leather, the cheeks are steel (yes they are engraved, but not nicely and they are rough and poorly machined) and... it's just a huge disappointment.I feel this product was misrepresented by the seller- there NOTHING about this that has anything to do with the fine reputation of old Kelly bits and spurs.

I was concerned about the quality of this hackamore when I read the other reviews, but I was drawn to those shanks! I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the leather, although disappointed at the lightness of the oil. I didn't realize that assorted oils meant you can't choose. The representative was very kind, and tried to locate a dark oil version for me, but had none in the warehouse. I will attempt to darken it up myself, but plan on keeping and using it regardless. I haven't tried it on my horse yet, so I will post edit this review if there are any problems. I am not anticipating any.

I really bought this for the engraved shanks. I was not too impressed by the nose piece(not quality leather and poor design). It doesn't sit well on the horses nose and buckle doesn't stay in place. I bought a nose piece I liked and attached it to the shanks. It took about 12 days to get to me which is what is stated when you order it (slow compared to many other items I have ordered on amazon).
