I um.. goodness, I loved this lantern in particular. I went on a 1 week solo trip camping adventure in the Olympics forests of the PNW here in America.I used it to do crossword puzzles in my tent, just listening to the river rush by and mother nature's best lullabies. I thought this little lantern was such a need concept and I was thrilled to have it.Unfortunately, it rolled off the counter and broke. I've purchased about 6 more since for family members and myself. I think these are wonderful additions to any emergency or camping kit.10/5 Highly recommend this to all of you. Grab a beeswax set of candles for it.

I bought and reviewed one of these before, I like them so much, I bought them for my kids for Christmas presents! Truly 9-10 hour burn time! I leave one lit at my campsite all night, I consider them to be safe enough for that . The subtle glow is enough to get around if you get up in the middle of the night, and with the optional citronella candles, keeps the bugs away! Truly a classic piece of camping gear! I own several myself! Much better camp aesthetic than LED or propane lighting!

Adds a little cheer on a dreary day! Top plate gets quite hot but lamp doesn't heat up a space of any size with the included or a beeswax candle. I prefer the latter for cleanliness. Also, I added the light hood and a base adapter that turns it into a wide stand for placing on the cabin table of my vintage sailboat.

I love this lil candle lantern! It's very cute and nice. Bought it for camping but I've just been using it around the house because I like it so much. It comes with 4 candles and a nice bag. It is a lot smaller than I expected but that's on me for not doing more research and the smaller size does make it more packable and better for backpacking. Excited to have this for many years!

Hi ! A very usefull little lantern, effective and practical !Unfortunately mine arrived bent ! The shipping box wasn't fulfilled with enough material, so the lamp arrived to Europe slightly damaged . Due to this issue the candle doesn't sit flat, causing several leakage of the wax over all the candle tube (making' it difficult to open for changing the candle) and flame deposits on the glass tube !It's a bit late for me to reclaim an exchange or return, cause i lighted the candle before realizing... so i won't use it so often :( ....But a very nice lantern indeed ... i recomand !

This is a great little lantern. Packs down to about half of it's extended height. I thought the glass in mine was broken when it arrived but it's just the way it's packaged. The lantern has a small chain and hook for hanging it and it sounds just like broken glass inside the package. It is a little stiff when you open and close it but it has become easier the more I use it. Once open you can slide the glass chimney down for easy lighting. It comes with one candle already in place, but I removed that one and replaced it with the UCO beeswax candle. This candle lantern, with the round label, is made in the U.S. On the bottom it states that it is made in the U.S.A. I've seen some of these lanterns with different labels on different sites that state the lantern is imported so if you only want to buy made in the U.S. look for this round label. This is a great item for your camping kit.

A legend for 25 years at least. I just received my new brass version. A deep scratch test reveals the lantern body to indeed be brass. Not plated aluminum. The brass material is approx .032 inches thick vs the .040 inch thickness of my 1970s version. A bit thinner but it is brass. The painted and anodized versions are aluminum with a wall thickness around .042 including the coating. The original has a aluminum candle holder. The new brass version has a aluminum candle holder with a brass like coating on it.All are plenty strong with brass winning the cool factor, for me. Please remember I'm no metallurgist. Just a fool with a digital caliper. All in all these are amazingly effective, simple little candle lanterns. Some one said plumbers candles will work. Well not very well. They are the correct diameter, 1.250 inch, but about 11/2 inches to long. When trimmed they fit fine. The bad news is the wick is way to large. You get a flame twice the size. This makes way more heat. The candle overheats and melts. It escapes thru the viewing port and top of the candle holder. BIG mess.Use UCO candles.

These candle lanterns--gotta say, they are slick. Now, granted they are a candle, but they are better than just a candle.I did my homework and am very happy with how my first lantern worked last weekend. We had a blizzard and our house was without power for 48 hours. This little candle burns well in the house, the flame stays very still and absolutely without a flame flicker, plus it gives off some heat. (I burnt my finger stupidly--don't close a hot candle lantern!). I plan to order several more.I had read that some people had trouble with the candle wax dripping down--here's the thing--read carefully. Try not to move it a whole lot-- but if you do spill wax, simply let the candle cool--let the wax harden on the metal insert, and it will wipe/lightly scrape off once it cools. Only takes a minute to clean it off.Other candles don't fit--so order extra. I found that the 9 hour candle worked for pretty much 6 hours and I stubbed it out with another 2 plus inches left for the next day.

This candle lantern is a brilliant idea. Its solidly built and relatively good looking. Got the brass because I love the look and though I'm not sure if its actual brass or brass colored anodized aluminum it feels heavier and more solid. With the reflector it cast more light directly below it for when it is overhead and works very well. Haven't had problems with wax build up as others have noted but I also take care to not bump it when it's lit, so it doesn't run down the inside, and I also wait for the wax to solidify before I collapse it. Taking such easy and patient steps it advances the candle smoothly and without build up. When hung up in an average sized bedroom with white walls I could read by its light anywhere in the room after my eye's adjusted. A bit brighter than an ordinary candle.
