U.S. Solid 1/2" 110VAC Normally Open Solenoid Valve, NBR gasket, solid brass
The U.S. Solid electric solenoid valve features a durable brass body, suitable for outdoor but not underwater use. It's favored by customers for DIY projects, moderate temperature and chemical applications, as well as for controlling flow in irrigation, reverse osmosis, and motorcycle systems.
Direction of the Flow
Most U.S. Solid Valves are UNIDIRECTIONAL
Make a note of the arrow on your valve. Most U.S. Solid valves are unidirectional. This means they are intended to flow in one direction only, in the direction of the arrow. If connected in opposite directions, the valve will not actuate properly (will not close for Normally Closed valves). Additionally, be sure the medium passing through is filtered. If not, particles will cling to the gasket over time, which can cause it to not seal properly.
THREADING
U.S. Solid Valves follow National Standards for pipe thread. We suggest the use of Teflon tape to ensure the seal of the NPT threading. The tapered male and female thread form angled surfaces that with increased torque squeeze the Teflon tape resulting in a tight seal.
OVERHEATING
These valves should be energized for less than 8 hours. While most do not have more than 18W of power, the coils are in a contained area and can burn out if energized for too long. We suggest a computer fan to keep the coil cool if necessary to energize continuously for extended periods.
POLARITY
- For valves with 2 wires, the valve will actuate regardless of which terminal each wire is connected to (+ or -). Some units include a ground wire. Open up the connector and look for the ground symbol (as shown in the corner).
- For valves with a ground wire, please be sure to ground the valve.
GASOLINE and PRESSURE WARNING
- NBR gaskets should not be used with gasoline, kerosene, or other petroleum products. If your valve requires contact with these substances, opt for one with a VITON gasket.
- All solenoid valves need some pressure to actuate. This is especially true of pilot or indirectly operated valves.

a well made valve. It replaced a no-name valve which had a very low flow rate with water. The loss in flow with this one is not detectable at about 3 GPM.After being on for an hour, the case temperature gets to 75F above ambient. This is well with a range which electro-mechanical devices of this sort are typically designed to operate. It draws 11 watts (28 VA). If one really needed to run it cooler, it can be run on 35V DC (not officially documented) and draws 10 watts but as the drop out is under 6V, if one pulls it in on 35 volts and then runs it at 10V, the power would be just under 1 watt. This could probably be done with a string of perhaps 2 or 3 small tungsten 3 or 4 watt 12V bulbs in series.The ability to rotate the power inlet assembly is handy to match the installation.

I love this valve. It is exactly what I was looking for. Normally Open valves aren't too easy to find (as compared to Normally Closed).
