About this item

  • Constructed of industrial grade brass, this valve is corrosion resistant, more conducive for welding, optimal for higher temperature projects, and can be used with gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene oil, natural gas, air etc. Due to the chemical composition of brass, this valve should NOT be used with projects involving drinking water or other water projects.
  • This valve was manufactured with a VITON seal. VITON is the most durable and high performance rubber material with the ability to resist high temperatures and corrosive chemicals and other fluids like gasoline, diesel fuel, oils, and lubricants.
  • This highly responsive valve will open and close in less than 1 second when actuated; meaning it will open or close the flow instantaneously when energized or de-energized. Also, our U.S. SOLID engineers have determined that the life cycle of this valve is well over a million cycles with proper operating conditions and maintenance.
  • PLEASE NOTE: This valve is NOT a continuous duty valve and should NOT be in continuous use for more than 8 hours in a single cycle; to do so will shorten the life of the valve and may cause the core of the valve to burn out. If you need a continuous duty valve for your project please search for our U.S. SOLID Motorized Ball Valves.
  • As with all U.S. SOLID products, this valve comes with a ONE YEAR WARRANTY. If the valve does become defective within the first year of purchase, U.S. SOLID will gladly replace it.

Product Description

U.S. Solid 1/2" 110VAC Normally Closed Solenoid Valve, VITON gasket, Solid Brass

1

The U.S. Solid electric solenoid valve features a durable brass body, suitable for outdoor but not underwater use. It's favored by customers for DIY projects, moderate temperature and chemical applications, as well as for controlling flow in irrigation, reverse osmosis, and motorcycle systems.

Direction of the Flow

Most U.S. Solid Valves are UNIDIRECTIONAL

Make a note of the arrow on your valve. Most U.S. Solid valves are unidirectional. This means they are intended to flow in one direction only, in the direction of the arrow. If connected in opposite directions, the valve will not actuate properly (will not close for Normally Closed valves). Additionally, be sure the medium passing through is filtered. If not, particles will cling to the gasket over time, which can cause it to not seal properly.

THREADING

U.S. Solid Valves follow National Standards for pipe thread. We suggest the use of Teflon tape to ensure the seal of the NPT threading. The tapered male and female thread form angled surfaces that with increased torque squeeze the Teflon tape resulting in a tight seal.

OVERHEATING

These valves should be energized for less than 8 hours. While most do not have more than 18W of power, the coils are in a contained area and can burn out if energized for too long. We suggest a computer fan to keep the coil cool if necessary to energize continuously for extended periods.

POLARITY

  • For valves with 2 wires, the valve will actuate regardless of which terminal each wire is connected to (+ or -). Some units include a ground wire. Open up the connector and look for the ground symbol (as shown in the corner).
  • For valves with a ground wire, please be sure to ground the valve.

GASOLINE and PRESSURE WARNING

  • NBR gaskets should not be used with gasoline, kerosene, or other petroleum products. If your valve requires contact with these substances, opt for one with a VITON gasket.
  • All solenoid valves need some pressure to actuate. This is especially true of pilot or indirectly operated valves.

Nope, it doesn't close all the way therefore useless.

Fine only for short-term use like opening a valve by hand while perhaps automated periodically (hence electrical) but don't forget to turn it off fairly soon.Otherwise look for "continuous-duty" and in my case "zero pressure drop" when other valves are downstream from it like in my case as a fail-safe if water rises in a boat bilge, to latch the city (shore) water input off. That's a tip for others with similar application including RV where the presence of both external AC and water pressure plus no safety triggers would allow that city water supply to become the one active (overriding 12v pump and tank default). My fault for not paying attention enough, they really mean it when they say ..."PLEASE NOTE: This valve is NOT a continuous duty valve and should NOT be in continuous use for more than 8 hours in a single cycle; to do so will shorten the life of the valve and may cause the core of the valve to burn out."It hit over 160 F fairly quickly, for example, with 80 F ambient.5 stars if 'intermittent use only' were in the title.

I am using it to reduce water flow for a business that has no drainage or water supply so they can wash hands with low water consumption due to covid .There are more products I used to do this but. Went from 5 gallons of water in 4 min that's what's what your faucet uses. To 5 gallons of water in 15 min that's continuous use . I made a special tip that will give you 5 gallons water for 34 minutes at continuous use. I have also added a foot pedal to turn on and off switch to add more water savings. Have not done a test on that yet because I am not done yet but should cut the water usage in half but valve works GREAT low noise. It is being used in a DOCTORS office. So as of now the valve works.great . If I have any problems with it I will let everyone know. LOVE THE VALVE . BDS

Solid little solenoid. I'd prefer if it had come wired with a plug but it is easy enough to cut the outlets off an extension cord and wire it on. Been running a few months now with hot water, no leaks or anything. It does make a bit of a humming noise while on and open but overall it isn't too noticeable.

Works great so far - using it for natural gas, typically energized for up to an hour at a time.

runs a little hotter than I would like, but they work ok so far.I'm confused by the temp rating. The name plate on the valve says -5 to 80 deg C, which would be 23 to 176 f,however, the outside of the box says 14 to 248 f.
