The best thing about this is that it Looks like a micrometer. It only opens to 12mm and then it seizes. The threads in the barrel are very Very VERY rough. I knew for the price they were not going to be Starretts or Mitis but wow. These are terrible. There was clearly not a quality control department wherever these were made.

The measuring surface is visibly ridged, and when measuring a valve shim I can see that it doesn't measure flatly. The measuring markings are also damaged and chipped. Also, when the spindle turns it feels like it's grinding, the movement isn't smooth. I regret buying it.

Seemed to work out of the box. Needed a little zero-stop calibration, but the tool for that is provided. OK.Looks nice, easy to read, initially feels like a quality product at a bargain price.UNTIL...After the first few measurements, there was a tactile roughness when working the adjustment. This sounds like an aesthetic complaint, but in taking a measurement, if the adjustment MUST move smoothly, or accurate results cannot be achieved. My results, after this roughness started ranged from a float of .01-.04mm, to laughably far off as the shaft stopped spinning from friction before touching the work.If you can't take an accurate measurement, you don't have a micrometer. You have very engineering-looking junk metal.I don't understand why the effort was expended to make the look and feel of this unit mostly good, without ensuring it did the basic job it was designed for.I'm a little frustrated that there's no non-digital option priced between this and $150. Seems like a market opportunity to me.

The precision isn't great, on to 0.01mm, but this is find for what I am doing. My Toyota's valves are adjusted by replacing shims that are between 2.5mm and 3.3mm in .5mm increments. There are 17 shims in this range, and I am able to measure them accurately. A previous review said only good for measuring things like brake disk thickness. I disagree 100%. I already had an inches version, and it was fine, but, messy converting to metric, hence, this purchase. Twenty bucks well spent.

Micrometer works just as well, including accuracy, as more expensive brands I’ve used. The only negatives for me is the flimsy plastic lever for locking the spindle.

Thought I'd take a chance on this but it is a disappointment. The tool threads felt like they were about to gall when using it and once I lubricated the threads it worked smoother, but when I looked closer I saw that the measuring surfaces meet at an angle and are not adjustable, it is from poor machining. This tool is more of a toy than anything, and at best can be used as a learning tool only to teach how to read the dial. It isn't worth sending back for the price, just want to say it is NOT a precision tool in any way.

Plastic case it came in was broken when it got to me via the USPS. (I taped the broken side with some duct tape and it's fine now) It's pretty cheap but then again, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't use it in any circumstance where precision was key but it does just fine for measuring brake rotor thicknesses.

I am using it to measure the thickness of the valve clearance shims for my Honda motorcycle and it works very well giving me what I want for a very low price. It looks and feels solid and comes with the box to keep it safe. Came from China in a reasonable time.
