Maybe I don't understand how to use these, or what they are designed for, but I was disappointed. I wanted to use them as precision files to reduce the bolster on an HRC 60 hardness knife (knife sharpening hobbyist). After about ten minutes with a flat, I saw very little change. I tried another flat that I thought felt a bit more coarse, but still didn't feel or see the metal removal I wanted. So I grabbed a high quality fine round diamond file, and in just a few seconds saw change, using a lot less pressure (diamond files tend to shed diamonds). I would have preferred a different file shape to the diamond round, which is why I bought these Vallorbe files. Maybe they are just too fine for what I want, but they are not any Swiss magic I had hoped for.
