This version (fourth edition) is now outdated enough that you should not use it. Get a more updated version as several rapids have changed. Some harder, some easier. People on my trip had newer versions that were more accurate and prevented me from entering a more difficult than realized rapid without scouting it. The book is high quality, and completely waterproof as promised.

This book is a must have for any river trip through the Grand Canyon. Easy to read maps and plenty of points of interest and history in addition to camps and rapids descriptions. It's also great to use to mark camps sites, side hikes, and other interesting things (like swims in rapids...) so you can remember them weeks later once you're done. Plus the book is waterproof so you don't need to worry about it getting wet (although it does take a very long time to dry between closed pages).

When we first ran the Grand Canyon in 1951 we used Kolb's and Dellenbaugh's books for guidance from Green River, Wyo. to Boulder Dam. Both books we diligently read each night before proceeding the next day and we still made many mistakes. Since 1951 I have used either Belnaps or Stevens river guides. Last February we made a 24 day trip down the Grand Canyon. Everybody including passengers had a copy of the Grand Canyon river guide by Tom Martin and Duwain Whitis. A mile by mile description in the book was exceptional and very useful to everyone. The "how to" river guide has come a long way since 1951.Dick Griffith, age 85
