My Craftsman DYT4000 with Briggs Intek 18.5 engine was not charging like it used to. The ammeter would fluctuate during use, and when I engaged the electric blade clutch, the ammeter would show discharge for awhile, or would stall at low engine speeds. This voltage regulator fixed the issue, and now shows charge for awhile and reduces to zero when the battery is fully charged, like when it was new. The regulator is held on with one bolt, and two bullet-style connectors. Just pull out lightly on the connector ears, and the wires easily unplug. It took 5 minutes to replace this regulator. If the regulator lasts a few years, I will consider this repair very affordable for the do it yourselfers.
