Your cart is empty. The heartwood of Gaboon ebony (Diospyros spp.) is usually jet black, with little to no variation or visible grain. Occasionally dark brown or grayish-brown streaks may be present. Can be difficult to work due to its extremely high density. Has a dulling effect on cutters. Tear-out may occur on pieces that have interlocked or irregular grain. Takes finishes well, and finishes to a high luster. Ebony is commonly used for small ornamental purposes, such as piano keys, musical instrument parts, pool cues, carvings. Great for knobs, pulls, inlays and accents in cabinetry. Somewhat difficult to machine, but worth the reward. Excellent turning wood. Africa.

Ebony is a brittle wood. I cracked two of the five pen blanks. Nothing against the product

Not that this is surprising when talking about ebony, but these little guys are expensive. That's not the fault of the seller, it's just the way it is. But the product was excellent quality as expected, with almost no sapwood or inclusions in the grain. One blank out of the set had a small hairline crack that I didn't find until I was turning it, but that's to be expected with any natural product.

I got my pen blacks which were pretty expensive due to them being ebony and one of the blanks had a crack all the way through the center rendering it unusable. I essentially paid for 5 and only got 4.

4 of these were a very dark color, fairly uniform, and one has a prominent light streak. They are dense, strong, and take a high polish. Will buy again.

Beautiful, but limited by the small size. Trying to place the pieces together to increase surface was a nightmare. It looked nice at the end, but it took a lot of work.
