This sheet of 20 Woodstock forever postage stamps celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, held in the small farming community of Bethel, New York, in August 1969. It was the most famous rock festival in history and an expression of the youth counterculture of the 1960s.

The momentous event drew 500,000 people to Max Yasgur's farm. The iconic rock festival – which symbolized the Sixties counterculture movement – featured such legendary rock acts as the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, the Band, Joe Cocker, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

The stamp art, designed by art director Antonio Alcalá, features the image of the dove from graphic artist Arnold Skolnick’s promotional 1969 poster for the festival along with some of the poster’s words: ‘3 Days of Peace and Music.’ In the stamp art the words are stacked in the background in brilliant colors along with the year 1969, USA, and Forever (the value of the stamp). The white dove stands in the foreground.

These forever postage stamps can be used to mail 1 oz First Class letters no matter what the postal rate.

.... and poignant, for anyone of a certain age in the 60's. Nice to be able to affix these to my mail, even knowing that some recipients will be oblivious.

I purchased these when they came out with USPS sheets stamps when they were out a year or so back. I love them… I’m an old hippie at heart!… They’re so pretty on greeting cards etc. except for them being much more expensive than the USPS I have purchased them three times now off Amazon… Because I’m so afraid they’re finally going to stop printing them (even though they’re forever stamps.) So, I’m “stocking up” Waiting for my next order. They are so colorful, shiny, with even textured finish. It delights me every time I put my custom addressed greeting cards stamped with Woodstock stamps in the mail box to send to friends or loved ones!
