The hex head is six-sided and ideal for easy driving and quick installation. The threads on lag screws are designed to embed into the wood, rather than relying on a nut to secure the connection.

Worked great on the corners of the deck I built. I wanted to reinforce these areas and these did the trick.

I don't know what else you can say about a lag bolt if it works. I drove them into timbers with an air impact and had no problems with them at all. I saw on some of the other brands of lags on customer reviews that they were breaking off when they were being installed. I had none of that with these.
