I hated getting my mail during the winter because when I got home it was black dark outside. The end of our driveway was so dark that I had to use my hands to see what mail was in the mailbox. It creeped me out. This works well. I'm not sure if it would work in the really cold of winter - I think the batteries wouldn't last.Actually, I would really like this as a rechargeable. There are two so I could switch them out. They stick on with a sticky tape which is probably the best way to hook this type of thing. It fits the back of the mailbox well as it's small at 3" round and lightweight. This would also be nice for a dark cabinet as it turns on when you open the door. That's what I'm using the spare one for.I guess it's a reasonable price for the product as it works well. I just don't like using batteries.

DESCRIPTION: 2-Pack Motion-Sensitive Mailbox LED Light - Portable, Universal Magnetic Interior LED Light with Motion Sensor for Mailbox Illumination - Enhances Nighttime VisibilityPROS: Magnetic! Motion censored. Comes on during the day as well when the box is opened.CONS: None I can think of.WHAT’S IN THE BOX: Two lights, adhesive metal plates, and instructions.REVIEW: This is a great idea. When we stop by our mailbox to pick up the mail at night, I think, “I wish I had my flashlight.” Not anymore!I like that this light attaches to my mailbox without having to adhere the plate. If you have a plastic or wood mailbox back, the plate will come in handy. It’s not super bright during the day, but at night, it’s perfect. What a great idea. These could also be used as a motion-sensor night light. I can’t sleep with a night light on, but if I get up, it sure is handy. I’m not using it that way, but I could see it! The good news is that if you do use it that way, I don’t think the motion sensor works during the daylight hours. If it’s bright, it doesn’t come on (makes sense.)I’m worried about the battery consumption. It’s going to be out in the freezing cold temperatures which will exacerbate the battery depletion. But we shall see.AMAZON PHOTO/DESCRIPTION ACCURACY: The photos and description are accurate.VALUE/VERDICT: What a great idea and well executed! At $19.99 it feels a little pricey, but it’s such a good idea I would still recommend the product.

These puck-style lights are perfect for their intended use. They have a small but strong magnet in the center of the backing plate, so they stick to steel and stay in place. There's also an adhesive piece you can use; it's not really double-sided as stated, since the one side has already been stuck to a metal plate, but it should work fine by gluing it on to a surface to create a spot where the magnet can touch. We have a security mailbox and there's a little bit of a lip where the secure door latch is located. I put a light pointing down from that spot, which works great to illuminate the contents while also staying out of the way when mail or packages are inserted. (In a security mailbox, I wouldn't put it in the back, as shown in the picture.)The light does have a light sensor and does not come on if it's bright enough outside. I eventually figured that out; at first it turned on and then I couldn't get it to work, but it worked just fine as soon as I opened the box at night.Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for and it works great. I do think the price is a bit high per unit for what it is (lightweight plastic puck), and I really only needed one, but it works well.

I think this si actually a good idea. I have my mailbox placed such that I can pull my vehicle right up to it, open the door, reach in and get my mail. During the winter months, it’s dark by the time I arrive home from work. It’s very hard to see whether I have gotten all the pieces of mail. That’s why I chose these little lights. They are basically a motion sensor puck light with a magnet and stick-on metal plate to attach it to the back of the mailbox. You can use screws, if you like but they don’t supply any. It operates by 3 AAA batteries, which you must supply yourself.I’ve had it installed for 3 days and, so far, it’s working fine. My experience with battery operated lights used outside, especially in winter, is that you’ll get through the season but you will have to replace the batteries a couple times a year. These work and I’m liking being able to see my mail in the dark but it’s a plastic puck light. I feel like, for the price, they should have included the 1st set of batteries and the type in the direction paper is so small, you can’t even read it even with a magnifying glass!

Who thought you'd ever need something like this? lol Meee!!! I thought it!!! LOL I love it. I initially was gonna get it for my parents, but ended up loving it, so I kept it and bought them another. (They, too, love it. Living in a rural area, you can never be too sure what you might find when opening the mailbox. This has been highly instrumental in easing potential shocks! lol I love this little light, both me and my folks, and if anything should ever happen to it, I am quite certain I would be re-purchasing.
