I’m not an expert in plastics but this looks and feels like PTFE. Has the same slippery feel when you press something hard into it. No distinct plastic smell. Has a pretty rigid feel overall I can just barely get it to flex a little while pressing with both hands and I have to exert a good majority of my strength.Dimensionally the pieces ranged from 3.996” to 4.275”. The ends were not cut square but they were good enough. As for their actual diameter, these are NOT 0.55” these are 15.5mm or 0.610” so take that into consideration when purchasing. The pieces were VERY CONSISTENT up and down their lengths with only a 0.0015” reduction seen in a couple of the 4” pieces, others had only 0.001” change. While I only have 20” total worth of rod, I would venture to guess that this is a decent representation of what to expect.While Normally one wouldn’t ever gripe about getting 10% more product than promised when it comes to purchasing material that is already less than 1” in diameter, it’s usually being chosen because it is a certain size that will work for what they have in mind (i.e. the diameter will require little to no extra work to use for what they have planned).That being said, when it comes to materials that will be processed into a final product, 99% of the time it’s better to have extra material than not enough. Like my dad would say “It’s easier to remove material than try to add it back”Overall I’m very pleased with the quality of the product but I won’t know how it performs until I make a couple of replacement packing seals for my Smith MW5 Oxy-Acetylene adjustment valves. If the quality turns to be sub-par I’ll update this post at that time.
