I have some lenses with various filter sizes, so I just went ahead and bought 82mm filters, and these step-up rings allow me to use them on my lenses with smaller filter sizes. Of course, you may not be able to use your lens hood/caps while they're attached, but it's a small tradeoff, and much better than having to buy multiples of the same filter in different sizes.
