I used one of these to replace a busted latch on an old toolbox. It worked out well. I did need to cut off the lock tab as it was in my way and I used machine screws instead of the wood screw that came with. The metal did smush a tad when I tightened them so I see why some others complained but it wasn't an issue for me. The latch pops open easily but not on it's own and I gave it a good shake about to test it. It also still stays hooked if it somehow would pop so I'm not worried about spilling it.

Using these as replacement clasps on a golf club box. They seem to do the job. I will have to wait to report on the longevity but they seem to be sturdy enough.
