Bought replacement for 08 Lance camper. Water heater valve was leaking. This fit up with no issues. I did have to take off fittings off old valve and put on this one. But that was not an issue

My Atwood water heater was made in 2001. It took me a while to figure out it was the gas control valve was the problem because initially the propane would ignite and heat up the water, it just wouldn’t do it a second time. So after looking at a bunch of other things I finally decided to replace the valve. This gas control valve was an exact fit and took about 10 minutes to install. Now my water heater is working great.

Fits the Atwood 6 gallon GH6-8E. Easy installation. Use gas rated pipe paste or high density tape for the threads. Note that item does not come with brass inlet fitting or outlet nozzle. Likely that it may be difficult to remove the fittings from the old valve, so use some penetrating oil and let it soak for a while.Price is a little high, but not much one can do about that.

Well I was having problem with the old valve slightly leaking and causing a "pilot" flame to stay on near the air shutter. Not good at all as it was going to start damaging the wiring. So this valve is close to a plug and play replacement, but you do have to swap out some brass hardware. This can often require some type of vice to hold the hold the old valve and some decent leverage to get the fittings off. Make sure you get the angle right on the input side so you match the copper coming in. I took several pictures before disassembly and during to make sure it matched up. Not hard, just take your time. When done, check all fittings with soap solution to ensure no leaks. After that you are ready to go and ready to enjoy a fantastic weekend at Talladega. ;)

My 6-gallon Atwood water heater ran fine for many years, but in the last year or so, it was getting progressively worse at starting. It would try, then fail; try again, then maybe catch. After two or three tries it would give up and I would have to flip the switch under the sink to reset it. It got so bad it was taking 5 or more resets to finally work. The first thing I tries was replacing the E.C.O. and Thermostat sensors. They are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. This helped initially, but in a few days it was back to the same behavior.I then tried replacing the Gas valve. This seems to have solved most of the problems. I've had a few failed starts over about a week, but it always starts up right away after flipping the switch, and mostly just runs without a glitch. I might still have some weakness on the circuit board, or maybe I adjusted the air intake too lean.It was not too difficult to replace. The hardest part was getting the fittings off the old valve. I didn't have a vice handy, so I had to use two crescent wrenches, which was a bit tricky. I also had some yellow PTFE tape to wrap around the fittings before putting them on the new valve.I also chose to replace the Main Burner pipe at the same time, as it was getting a bit rusty. Pretty satisfied so far.***1 month later - well it didn't take long until it started misfiring and getting stuck again. The valve, I am sure, is functioning perfectly well, because if I leave the power switch off for a while it starts without fail. And whenever it tries to start, I can hear the click of the pump solenoid, but then it just either shuts off, or fails to light. It feels to me like there are some capacitors failing on the circuit board, so I guess I will have to look at replacing that also.

Easy replacement. Comes with basic instructions. Fired right up. Our water heater had a good spark at the ignitor coil. It had good voltage at the wires when the switch was on. The 2 thermostats had good continuity when checked with a multimeter (ohms). So this was the last possible culprit before I just started hitting it with a hammer. Luckily it worked. It took me about 15 minutes to change, and I was moving slow.I found this info online from another store that sells this exact part that may help you:Fits Atwood Models:GCH6-4E, GCH6-6E, GCH6-7E, GC6A-7E, GH6-6E, GH6-7E, GH6-8E, G6A-6E, G6A-7E.
