I needed a cutting board and slicer for boules. This works great! You can choose a couple of different cut sizes. I have not seen any wood splintering from knife cuts. Easy to clean and store. This was exactly what I needed.

I've been baking a lot of bread lately, so I was looking forward to trying this horizontal bread slicer. Unfortunately it didn’t deliver.Pros:The design concept is unique, and the wooden construction is attractive and sturdy. There are multiple options for slice thickness.Cons:The slicing process is awkward. The distance between the guides that your blade rests on doesn't allow for very much forward and back motion - you have to use very small movements, which makes slicing take a long time. The thickness options are a little strange: the 1/4 inch slice was way too thin to be of any use, and I can't imagine needing 1 inch thick bread. If I did, it likely wouldn't be difficult to freehand slices of that thickness. The anti-skid rubber pads on the bottom left black residue all over my countertop that was difficult to scrub off. This tool ended up being more of a hassle than simply slicing bread by hand. I sliced 3 loaves of bread the old fashioned way in less time than I could slice one loaf using this horizontal bread slicer.

Bread knife is sharp and the correct length for cutting bread. Most bread knives nowadays are too short for their purpose. Glad to see there is one out there that is suitable. The manufacturer reached out to me on a personal problem I had with the knife and I’m happy to say they stand behind their product 100%. and have an excellent work ethic.

Please note that 99% of the 4 and 5 star reviews on here are for the knife, even though this listing is for the wooden bread slicer, which what I am reviewing here. While trying to choose a bread slicer, it appeared to me that this gadget might be an improvement on other styles of bread slicers on the market, because why else would this be designed this way? But it is clunky, more difficult to get a straight cut from than just trying to do it without a slicer, and the worst part for me was the huge, thick slices. The marker says 1/2" is the smallest. Your average slice of sandwich bread at the grocery store is 1/4" to 1/3" or so. That's difficult to cut at home and one of the main reasons I decided to buy a slicer, to get thinner, more even slices. On the thinnest setting , the slices actually comes out substantially bigger than 1/2" becauseyour knife sits above the half inch guide, so think Texas Toast thickness. Again, that is the Smallest setting. If you're okay with very thick slices, the other problem with this design is that gravity isn't helping you. Slicing horizontally, you're working against gravity, which causes hand and arm fatigue. Also, it makes it so you literally cannot see what's happening while you're slicing the bread, so it's easy to get off track, making this basically useless. My guess is that this was designed for something other than slicing bread. I think it is just being marketed to the American market as a bread slicer but it was actually designed to be a meatloaf slicer or something like that. So, if you make loaves or something that isn't bread and want half inch or larger slices, it would probably be very good for that. The only thing that comes to mind is meatloaf cooked in a bread pan.

This device sounds like a great thing to have in theory but once I got it and used it, I realized it was pointless to keep. I make several homemade sourdough sandwich bread loaves every week for my family as we don't buy storebought bread. I got this to cut the bread into slices. The problem is, storebought bread slices are about 1/4" thick. The thinnest you can cut bread with this device is 1/2". That's twice the thickness, meaning 50% less bread slices in each loaf. If you want super thick bread slices, then this will work well for you. It's easy enough to use too.Overall, if you get a really good quality, sharp knife, you won't need this contraption.

Cutting board does a terrible job. The 1/2 inch setting, which is the smallest setting, is closer to being 1 inch, that's too thick for the smallest setting. I used it twice and found it easier to cut my bread free hand. Also, the quality of the cutting board is terrible, this junk started cracking in 2 places after the first wash.I wish I could get my money back. Complete waste of $30 that I could of used to buy more flour to make homemade bread. DO NOT BUY, buyer beware!
