About this item

  • Double Tips: Car battery tester with clear density scale mark, and different scale stalls also have different color tips, when the measured value is less than 1.25, the color indication of gray and orange, you need to replace the electrolyte immediately
  • Fast Readings: Our battery tester can measure from 1 to 1.3, allowing quickly check the battery electrolyte density, directly reflecting the state of charge of the battery and helping you to better understand if there is a potential failure in the battery
  • Multi-Voltage Application: Our battery tester 12v automotive can be used to measure the electrolyte density of vehicle batteries with voltages of 6V, 12V and 24V, helping you to make an accurate and quick judgment on the health of the battery
  • How to Use: Simply suck in the battery fluid until it is above the horizontal minimum level line, keep the black buoy aligned perpendicular to the centerline when measuring, if the measured value is 1.275-1.300, the battery is in good condition
  • Premium Material: The battery hydrometer tester shell is made of highly transparent material, not easy to deform and crack. Connecting tube and sunction at both ends made of outstanding sealing rubber for fast and accurate display of specific gravity

I've been collecting tools for my shop for awhile now and while I have a coolant tester and a brake fluid testing pen, I've never had one for the battery. Not many people check the water/acid level in their battery anymore. Most batteries are either AGM or have sealed caps. But did you know that even the sealed caps can still be removed? And if you live in a hot climate or idle your car a lot with the air on, your battery is just cooking if it's up under the hood! This can seriously shorten your battery life and you might only get 2-3 years out of a new battery.WEAR GLOVES and WEAR GOGGLES or SAFETY GLASSES. You do NOT want battery acid on you, don't ask me how I know, I don't want to talk about it, I was young and stupid and you know how that goes. Anyhow, you can use this tester to check the specific gravity of the acid/water mixture in each of the six cells of your 12 volt car battery. If you've been topping off the water, you might be surprised how low it is (I sure was), and it might be time to get a bottle of acid from say a powersports dealer, and add a little of that to get it back up where it ought to be.The reason I have this is I'm too lazy to change out my alternator multiple times to get a good one in my Explorer, and it runs full field all the time. Typical mid-00s Ford issue. I've read enough horror stories of people going through 4 or more alternators before finding one that'll charge properly. Anyway, point being, the battery is ALWAYS cooking in this thing being charged at 14.8 volts or so, even at idle, so I have to add water at pretty much every oil change, and more often in the Oklahoma summers. So having this means I have the opportunity to NOT buy a $180 battery every 2-3 years. The battery in there is from 6/23, so it's nearing the two year mark, and 1.225 was a little lower than I expected it to be, so I'll be adding a little acid at the next oil change battery check. I'd like to get it back over 1.275 and with this little tester I'll know if I've made a difference.
