I have an old, but high-quality standard 24F battery that's a little over four years old. It's in an old cargo van that is only driven irregularly and only for short distances, which takes a toll on the battery. It isn't driven frequently enough or far enough to keep the battery charged, so I frequently remove the battery and give it a full charge. It seems to be getting weaker, with each charge lasting less time before needing a fresh charge. One of the fastest ways to kill a lead/acid battery is to allow it to go into a state of deep discharge, especially if it remains in a discharged state for any length of time, so I try to avoid that.I expected this tester to tell me that the battery is nearing the end of its life, but it surprisingly gave it a clean bill of health. It initially gave SOH (State Of Health) = 73% / Bad / Recharge -- which was about what I expected. But after giving it a full charge, it gave it SOH= 100% / Perfect. The battery CCA rating is 890, and after recharge it measured CCA=863 with internal resistance within the good range. I'm unsure whether to trust the results because they seem to be too good to be true. I've posted the test result screens, both before and after charge. If these results are accurate, this is a fantastic tool.

This is a easy way to test a automotive battery. This works great. This shows you how good your battery is. This is pretty correct. I tested against my more expense testers. It gets close to it. It is close enough for any DIYer, backyard mechanic, or any person that want to see if they should change their battery.

- Item arrived in well packed box- Quality of battery tester is very good, it is sturdy, clip and lead quality is good, it came with storage bag- It is very simple to use, remember that this tester do not have any internal power so you need to have battery that has some voltage/juice in it, dead battery can not be tested.- To test battery, connect Red clip to + (positive) terminal of battery and Black clip to - (negative) terminal of battery and display will turn on, use buttons to change battery type, type of test you want to perform etc- Able to test 12V H4 battery fine, checked CCA, internal resistance, voltage level and overall health of battery- Overall it is really good product- Price is reasonable- Surely recommend product

This tester works well once you figure out how to use it and set the numbers. THIS TESTER IS NOT FOR DEEP CYCLE BATTERIES! It is designed for testing starting batteries, do not try it on a storage batttery. It could damage the battery, and the results will be meaningless anyway.Once you enter the battery type, and the cca value, you can then move on to the test. It takes about 8 seconds to run the test, then you can look at the results. It will tell you expected starting amperage, stae of charge, internal resistance, and state of health. It may also tell you to replace the battery, and or charge it!It is quite usseful, but be a little cautious. If it tells you to replace the battery, but the battery has not shown any weakness, recheck your settings, and or charge the battery and retest. You should also probably check that your alternater is charging the batterry with a volt ohm meter. When the engine is running, your meter should show at least 13 volts, 13.8 to 14.8 is normal.I like this battery tester, and I recommend it. Just be aware that it is not always correct before you buy a new battery, or beliieve that a misbehaving battery is ok! Especially if you have had to jump start your car, something is wrong, could be you left your lights on and discharged it. If it recharges and works well after you are probably ok.
