At $275 you better connect with the phone. After 3 hours of trying to connect, using USB or Bluetooth, I'm returning it NOW. Very frustrating. I'd love to do a review of the instructions on YouTube. The word "simply" gets thrown around a lot.

It's fun to just play around with to make beats and rhythms that I would not think of otherwise. However the fact that it consistently crashes both on my mac and my android makes this unreliable and thus not a professional piece of equipment. Best way to use it is to plug it into the mac as a MIDI device so you can record in your software of choice; garage band works good enough.

This came so close to being accessible. There are tactile markers and buttons, which initially gave me hope. In the final analysis, though, the app was not usable, & there were problems knowing one's location in the menus using the regular interface. The "A" button was also problematic, as other reviews have mentioned. I'll be interested to see if any of the problems get fixed in the next iteration, but, until they make their app usable by blind folks as well, I can't recommend the purchase of any Artiphon instruments to those w/serious sight impairment. As seems to be the case w/many of these electronic instruments, they're designed for everyone, except, of course, if you're blind. W/just a little more effort, this could've been a winner indeed.

I got this hoping it would help me songwrite on the go.It is close to something good, and I wanted to like it, but I ended up returning it.The issue is that it’s all diatonic, and if you’ve had any experience with songwriting everything diatonic is easy to do in your head anyways.Further limiting, the melody line is pentatonic only. It’s good for jamming with zero music knowledge friends who want to play some chords though. One cool thing is I had a friend play three chords on it in repeat while I played lead real guitar, and we had a good time doing that for a bit.I would like to see a similar tool but with chromatic bass and chord options, any chord flavor over any root, as well as any chromatic note, so basically a physical version of the geoshred app with single button chords would be amazing. Yamaha or whoever’s single chord mode is already well thought out and woulde a welcome addition: eg single note is major, minir third plays a minor triad, and adds in an interesting rhythm and bass for whatever you choose beyond diatonic. The melody should be wide open but with beginner helpers on the pentatonic. Hard limiting to the pentatonic severely limits it as songwriting tool.

So, if you are looking for an instrument to use with your DAW, this is pretty nice. After playing with it and reading the small manual, if you have a basic understanding of music theory it is pretty good to use with A DAW. It simulates guitar strumming and creates the midi very well. So, if you play piano, but not guitar, you can use this to make some nice, editable guitar rhythms. If you play guitar, bit not piano, you can make editable chord progressions, etc. But, no, this is not an instrument I would ever play on stage, or in small company. I would have given this 4.5 stars, but gave it 5 because it leans more to that side.
