The architecture, customs and history of Victorian England are inherent in the Dickens' Village Series. These distinguished and quaint buildings and accessories are an inspiration to all who make them part of their holiday traditions. A central piece in the popular "Christmas Carol" Village series, this is where Scrooge and Marley operated their lucrative accounting business. The piece is hand-crafted from porcelain and hand-painted. This item illuminates using a standard light cord and 6 watt 120 volt bulb. Designed by Village artists and manufactured by Department 56.

This is the first Department 56 product I have bought, and I am not disappointed. Excellent attention to detail and paint finish. The selling point for me was the presence of Scrooge sitting at his desk. With the stove behind him and the books on the shelves, it brought the whole building to life. Especially when lit up.The only confusing thing to me was the presence of what looked like a bird nest on the chimney complete with egg! I can understand the nest. With Scrooge being stingy with his coal, it illustrates the fact that the chimney is seldom used. But it seems strange that an egg would be present in the middle of winter. Still, it just adds to the charm of it.The parcel was packaged well, arrived safely and in a timely manner.

This is a high quality piece with a lot of detail. Unlike a lot of the other Department 56 pieces, there is an internal scene of Scrooge counting his money that you can see through the main window and the warm light shines through all the rest of the windows. It's a great atmosphere/conversation piece.

My husband is the hardest man to buy anything for. It doesn’t help that he’s a CPA and money is a big issue with him but when I he opened this he laughed out loud he loves it and now his favorite words are pertaining to the reference on the building...that he’s going to go to work now he’s going to the countinghouse ! and so I am Just thrilled that I finally got him something he really really likes

Though this is the second design of the Scrooge/Marley house - this design exceeds others with the interior detail of Scrooge at his desk counting his money. The building is nearly identical with how Dickens described it in his wonderful novel. Surely this piece will become a sought after collectable that will increase in value through the years and decades. - Well done

This is my first house for my budding Christmas collection and it’s adorable! It’s well made, reasonably priced, and the details are just fantastic! I love that you can see Scrooge inside! In fact, I loved this so much I bought a second one for my soon-to-be mother-in-law as she collects department 56 too! If you’re deciding between lemaux collection or department 56, definitely go with department 56 as these pieces are more likely to retain their value and be painted much better. Also, plastic versus ceramic and I highly prefer the ceramic feel.

Absolutely perfect to me. What I love about those houses is the detail and decent paint job . I’ve seen many different brands ( Lemax being one) that have horrific paint job, everything is sloppy. This house is a nice size house. It’s cute, charming and well made . Beautiful piece . The price was excellent for the type of house. I love it.
