About this item

  • Easy to remove the decal with no marks
  • Twelve colored lines are arranged in a scale pattern and indicate the notes of the first octave above the open string
  • Guidelines are printed to help properly align on the fingerboard

The patented Don't Fret Finger Position Indicator is a decal which applies to the fingerboards of string instruments and which shows beginning students where to put their fingers. Twelve colored lines are arranged in a scale pattern and indicate the notes of the first octave above the open string. Don't Fret is mathematically designed and is precision-printed on vinyl, with an overlay of transparent ink for durability. Guidelines are printed to help properly align the Don't Fret on the fingerboard. In classes the Don't Fret has lasted more than one year. The decal removes absolutely cleanly from the instrument.

It clearly shows in the picture that the markers are for a 1/2 cello. Those who cannot read or are inclined to not fully research are not likely to get what they need or want. I think it works for my 1/2 cello. Thanks.

The picture clearly show 3/4 on the packaging, though the description does not mention the size. This works perfectly on my 3/4 cello. The recommended length from nut to bridge is 622mm, and recommends you adjust your instrument to this length so the indicator lines match up with the notes. My length was 10mm longer, at 632mm. I didn't mess with my cello to change the length, and it sounds very good, not noticeably out of tune with the 10mm difference. It's not perfect according to my tuner, but so close it's not an issue. I'm extremely happy with this purchase, as I'm an adult, trying to teach myself until I can afford lessons. I can play simple tunes and feel like I'm not torturing my family and dogs sawing away, trying to guess at finger placement. I know many people feel it's a crutch, but it's giving me hope, being able to hits the notes I want, and I'm practicing more. Now, to installing it. There are YouTube videos showing you how to install it. I did not follow those instructions, as I didn't want to mess with loosening the strings, I'm a complete beginner and didn't want to mess up the set-up. First, because my nut to bridge distance was longer, I slipped it under three strings, and pressed down on the string it wasn't under, so the string would vibrate freely. Then lining up my finger with the mark under the next string over, and checking my tuner clipped to the bridge. I tried all the note markers, and saw that it was so close that despite my longer length, I'd still butt the sticker right up against the nut, and not start the sticker down from the nut. I slid the sticker back out, peeled a small section of the backing down, slid it under the strings, and slowly, carefully, peeled and smoothed it down as I went along. I did get a little off center, and was able to unstick a couple inches and kind of realign it better and keep going. When I was done, I went back and pressed it down hard, pushing out bubbles. Slow and easy, you can do it this way if you aren't comfortable with loosening all the strings as recommended. I've very pleased, I did this all with no helper, just took my time. Again, I highly recommend this sticker, I'm able to make something resembling actual music, even if it's simple nursery rhymes, and fulfilling one of my biggest bucket list items, learning how to play the cello for my own enjoyment. I've got a 1949 Kay 3/4 cello, model 111, which is a standard size 3/4 cello, nothing fancy or exotic. I've added a picture, so you all know this is a real review.

I was actually trying to order the 4/4 fret aid, but since it is so difficult to tell what size it is listed, I ended up ordering this one. This listing is for a 1/4 violin fret aid. Honestly, I chose this listing because I thought I would be getting the whole multi size pack. Nope. They really need to list the SIZE and not the item number!

This decal is for a 3/4 size Cello, but the description in Amazon does not indicate this. Since no size was stated, I assumed the decal was full sized.
