This set has all the sizes that should be needed for serpentine tensioners. Very interesting design which will make it better in some cases and worse in others. The metal is strong enough on all parts that it won’t bend or break.Let’s start with the case. The case is a molded plastic case that will nicely hold the parts right where they should be. The first thing I noticed was nice hinged snaps that hold it closed. The clasps should last forever and are easy to open and close but hold securely. Strange they put such nice snaps on but the main “hinge” for the case is not even a hinge. It is just part of the molded plastic case that bends. We all know how durable those are. They are fine for a while but due to repeated bending they break and then we’re stuck with a rubber band or string to keep the case closed. Opening the case I found lots of pieces of plastic matching the case and was thinking “oh, great, the case got broken in transit”. Nope. The case is completely intact. Excellent! Must just be scraps from the manufacturing process.The set comes with a wrench that has SAE 7/8” box on one end and 9” away on the other end has a metric 19mm ratcheting box. The wrench is nicely labeled with easily read lettering. This wrench holds the tools (sockets, etc.) that go onto the tensioner. The 19mm end is for this and has a metal ring in it that snaps nicely into a groove in each of the tools. That should keep the tools in place so they don’t fall off during use. Nice. Being only 9” long the wrench is a bit short for getting into many engine spaces and too short to get the necessary torque for some tensioners. That’s where the 7/8” end comes in. There is a breaker bar in the kit with a 7/8” “nut” welded on. This end of the wrench does not have the retaining ring like the other end, but the breaker bar has a groove with a rubber O-ring that keeps it from sliding out. Not as good as the retaining ring, but holds okay- until the rubber ages or wears. The ratchet on one end and not on the other is a nice design point. You can set the angle between the bar and the wrench and it doesn’t change on you. But the end on the tensioner ratchets to get to the correct position.The set is painted black with nicely visible markings on the wrench and claw feet. The sockets just have the sizes (metric 13-19mm) stamped. These stamped sizes are large, but not the easiest to read. Just keep them correctly in the case since the case has the spots labeled.There are a few nicks in the paint. So I’m wondering if over time the paint will peek off. On the 3/8” adapter (which doubles as a 3/8” drive for the claw feet), the paint was a little too thick and initially I had trouble getting it into the claw feet. The paint scraped down a little and now it fits fine. That 3/8” adapter has the same O-ring design as the breaker bar.My one star deduction is because I feel they should have used the retaining ring instead of O-rings, high visibility markings are not on all components, and the uncertainty of the paint. Otherwise this is a great addition to the toolbox.

Not only is this an essential kit for those tensioners that have NO CLEARANCE to get a regular tool down in there, but this works great for any situation where you cannot get a normal socket wrench in. Plus the handle is really long so you can get a lot of torque onto it and this tool will hold up to the abuse. Comes in a nice case so you can keep it together with a bunch of different socket sizes. If it was a tool that was ONLY for serpentine belts, it would be worth it, however it has so many other uses.

This tensioner tool is such a great tool to have around the shop. Typically, I can loosen an auto tensioner using a long reach box wrench. There are times when an engine mount or another bracket can get in the way of a straight wrench making it a pain to remove the belt. This two piece serpentine belt tensioner tool can be offset where the bar meets the wrench in order to bypass obstacles. A replaceable o-ring is what provides friction to the straight bar to connect to the included ratcheting wrench. The ratcheting end of the wrench has a wire spring that keeps the socket from popping off while in use. Another nice feature is the compact sockets that can help the tool fit into tight spots. Overall a great tool to have when working on cars with auto tensioners.

I have yet to be disappointed with a Duratech product. I also like the blue they use as a brand identity...but that has nothing to do with this review! This is a very high quality kit. It has an excellent case with great latches that won't wear out easily. The materials used are as close to professional grade as you're going to get at this price point. It's very similar to a GW set... Instead of being proprietary Duratech has made the ratcheting attachments 19mm and the sockets will fit any 19mm wrench. The ratchet has a retaining ring and the sockets have o-rings. They fit securely and snug... Which will lessen the chance of one dropping into the abyss of your engine bay. I own a similar tool from a Tool Truck brand (they use a proprietary size also) and I am just as pleased with this set. This is very comparable. The drive adapters (3/8",1/2" and 3/4") are actually shallower than my 'Pro' tool which is going to enable you to get into those really tight spots. The sockets start at 13mm and go to 19mm making this versatile beyond just a speciality serpentine belt tool, trust me... Things like this can save your day. The sockets also have a generous pass through for long studs if needed. The wrench can be angled just about any way you'd need to use the handle for leverage and access those 'impossible' to reach tensioners. This is seriously a great set and I would have no problem using this professionally!
