It’s amazing as to how fast this machine will fill up with insects. We can actually sit outside in the evening.

While it does kill just about any insect that is attracted to lights, it does a fantastic job of controlling mosquitoes. I love not having to pay for regular mosquito treatments. That alone means that it pays for itself over time.

I was more than a little skeptical when I first heard about the DynaTrap on a radio Garden show that claimed it can cover 1/2 to 1 acre of property, but I have trusted the shows host on a number of things so I ordered it through Amazon. It took several weeks to arrive, as they were backlogged with orders as I am sure they are each Spring to Summer. The trap feels very light so you won't have to worry about a heavy or large hook to hang it. I installed it on the far edge of the patio but still under cover. I did not want the rain to soak it or the sun's UV rays to degrade it. I am a little concerned about the operating life, being left on 24/7. So far so good. I have had it operating for a month now and I am really pleased that it is so quiet. How it works: The light stay on continually and attracts flying insects day and night! When the insects get close, the fan underneath the light pulls them through the grate and traps them in the basket below. I have seen all different sizes of insects in the trap.Problems: I have only had one problem with the trap. I came out one day last week and the light was on but the fan was not turning. I unplugged the cord and found that a rather large June Bug was caught between the fan and the grate below it. These tough little bugs seem like they are made of a hard plastic and and this one was too big to make it trough the grate and was wedged in there, stopping the fan blade. I was think that perhaps this could have burned up the electric fan motor but after removing the bug and plugging it back in, it worked just fine. Apparently they anticipated this happening in the motor design. Nice job Dyna Trap!Operation: I empty the trap about twice a week and estimate that there is about one full cup of bugs inside. Some of the bugs that were apparently caught recently were still alive in the basket so I keep a can of bug killer close by and spray the bugs after I dump them out. (No since letting them take off and bother us again.) I probably should empty it more often because you can detect a slight odor from the dead bugs if you leave them in there too long. (Just a suggestion) Although I did not notice the smell from the patio because the fan blowing over them disperses the smell. Just the same, you may want to empty it more often.I am please with the quiet operation and clearly effective way it works, and have noticed a REAL difference sitting outside!. My backyard is about 1/2 acre and I still occasionally notice a fly by, but I'm not bothered like before. Even when I go out at night with a flashlight, I am not attacked by swarms of bugs. It has made a difference that is noticeable!

This will not trap mosquitos without bait because it's only a UV light. If you are in the south (I am in Alabama), the best bait for our mosquitos is Atrakta (or any other bait with the same ingredients). If you live in the rest of the US, both Atrakta and Octenol will work. If you live in Canada, use Octenol. There are different species in different regions that are attracted to different baits - Octenol will not work in the south!I have about 3 acres, but primarily need my deck and front yard to be protected. I have two 1 acre DynaTraps, both with Atrakta mosquito bait in the net. One is 20 feet from my deck and the other is 50 feet in the other direction to also protect my barn, garden, and chicken coop. I also have a 1/2 acre DynaTrap for the front yard.Replace the baits every 2 months. Expensive? Absolutely! Preferable to the half-solution of spraying your yard with pesticide, which won't even fix your mosquito problem? Absolutely. Baited DynaTrap overkill (get more than you think you'll need) is the best mosquito solution out there, and its better for pollinators, your yard's health, and your health.

This u it seems to only be attracting moths. My old unit, it took care of several different types of flying bugs & mosquitoes. At least this dynatrap is a 1/3 of what it cost me for my very large, first DynaTrap. It's only been plugged in for about a week & a half. It works, great quality, very bright, easy to hang. I'm going to try moving it to the shadier side of my yard this evening. Hoping for better results! I will not give up! I believe in DynaTrap! I like the newer, lightweight 1 acre option. It's easier to move around! And it looks great! Price is even better!

I bought four of these for my property. Three out of four did not run at all and were returned. i just unpacked the fourth which was supposed to be for an acre, but its smaller than the one bought for 3/4s acre. It seems to barely run, and the fan isn't working properly, i would assume since it is supposed to suck flying bugs in, and you can't even feel it move that this unit will prove useless and also be returned... Makes NO sense... half the size.In my opinion Dynatrap is another company lying about its product and making too much money off of folks believing their lies. The fan barely runs, you have to reach almost inside to feel what is supposed to suck bugs in. I put it in a high traffic mosquito and fly area of my property. I'm not holding my breath to see much inside in the AM. I will most likely send this unit back and order good old fashioned bug lights. I would suggest no one waste their time on this product.

This certainly catches a LOT of moths, not as many mosquitoes. It could have been a low mosquito year. It was also so smokey this summer we didn't sit outside much, so I can't say if it kept the mosquitoes down a significant amount or not. Our friend who recommended it says it does, so we'll see next year. You do have to string a cord or run power to it, and we have to dump ours every 3 weeks or so. It doesn't kill the bugs, you have to dump into a plastic bag and then they die off. The chickens liked the extra protein.
