So far this has worked great for me. It is basically just plug and play. I found that you have to be careful not to bump it while in use, but other than that, it works great. It is extremely easy to connect and use and the attached cord plugs into either standard USB or USB-C. At $14.99, the price seems comparable with many others I have seen on the market.

I ordered this just in case I needed it for something, and sure enough, about a month later I needed to burn a photo video slide show to a DVD. I just plugged it in, didn't have to install any drivers of software or anything (Windows 10). I clicked on the file I wanted to burn to the DVD and away it went. It completed in record time, compared to when I used to do this on a more regular bases, and both DVDs I created worked perfectly. Since most laptops don't come with a DVD player/burner anymore, this is a life saver for those times when one is needed. The price is unbelievable too!

My laptop doesn't have a disc drive so I thought I'd give this portable one a try. It's super easy to use and the sound quality of CDs and video quality of DVDs is great. It conveniently comes with a USB and a C connector. Within moments of plugging the USB into my laptop, I was listening to an old CD. Amazing.

Not so many years ago… a slower, similar optical drive, that required an external power source and was four to five times thicker would cost 10 times as much.I almost never use DVDs or CDs any more, but when you need to read, or burn (more on that below) a disk, these drives are a must-have.I recently visited my elderly mother. Of course we took lots of video and photos… but… she doesn’t have a computer or smartphone. She does, however, have a DVD player. So, we set off to create a DVD to send her memories of the visit. This drive performed flawlessly with my Mac and PC.What I like…- Very compact. Not much thicker than an old style DVD cover.- Powered by USB, no external power needed.- Plug and play. Neither my Mac nor my Windows 11 PC needed any driver installation or set up to use this optical drive.- Convenient cable storage on the case. The cable is both USB-A and USB-C. (More on this later.)- Fast throughput. 8x burn rate.Shortcomings…- It might be fragile. It’s hard to know if it is durable enough when crammed into a bag with a notebook computer, for example. A carry case would be a good addition.- The attached cable is only suitable for mini desktop computers or notebooks. It is not long enough for use with under desk, floor mounted computers. The box included the optical drive with attached USB-A and USB-C cable and user guide. (See pic)Set up was plug and play. Simple. All in all, this is a good value with very good features and performance. I hope this information was helpful.——-This review is for:External CD Drive Portable Drive USB3.0 Portable Drive Can Read DVD/CD is Suitable High Speed Data Transfer for Laptop/Desktops Windows xp /7/8.1/10

After three different discs I couldn’t figure out why it was disconnecting from the computer like I had manually ejected the disc each time. The tray wasn’t opening and I wasn’t touching it.It was very difficult to use even for short tasks.Do not recommend.

Most laptops and PCs don't have a cd drive on them anymore. Only the older models. This external cd drive allows you to burn cds and dvds from your laptop. It connects to it with an attached usb cord. I only took away one star because the cord cannot be removed from the drive, meaning if the cord is damaged or stops working, you'll no longer be able to use the drive.

Right.Once hooked up to my Win11 PC (no external power source - aka outlet - needed!), this Dainty brand "External CD Drive Portable Drive" (aka player) got instantly auto-recognized; both via the USB 2.0 ports I tried, as well as with the (prefered, 'cos - normally - faster^) 3.0 ones!So it *is*, indeed, fully plug&play.Excellent! And, it played the various CDs 'n' DVDs I fed it perfectly fine.Top notch, that, too! :DHoweversss:The disk tray feels sorta way too flexi.(May it last! (We'll see....))Plus....The drive is listed as "bringing [faster] data transmission speed (max 5Gbps)".Well.... During the multiple data transfer tests I ran from Dainty - who was now all occupied reading some of my early 2000s backup disks' data - to my power PC (which sports both SSDs, ànd oodles of RAM!), each 500MB or so worth o' files would take anywhere between a ^whopping 9 and 11 minutes to be fully copypasted! And it is (albeit occasional) actual data transferroo that I got this here drive for in the 1st place! ('Cos PC dear came w/out an internal 'un.)So, things may get a tad tiresome when dealing with huge piles o' files, right?Quite.&.... then there is, of course: the drive's attached USB cable!Which is, excusez le mot, stu-pid-ly short. That is, even a few valuable inches shorter than - what appears to have been "photoshopped"!? - in a couple of this product listing's pics! :o(Well, at least as this review is being posted, June early, 2024.)Though the (imo) too-shortness isn't the sole cable matter, mind. No, also the fact that it is located.... on the back!Which is where it should be, sure. But, if - like me - you intended to use this Dainty with a PC (instead of - a very mobile - laptop or netbook), that super shorty of a cable makes it tough to find a useful spot/position for the drive be located at. :/*If* you actually wanna easily access the player's front ( = tray) side, that is!So, I best go buy a USB extension cable now..... Which then adds a bunch of bucks to the initial price of this disk-playing peripheral.Bah.Lastly-ish:I had sworn to never ever èver burn a CD-R again (much obliged, o my many external multi-TB backup hard drives!) - so I did not wanna go thru that here either, sorry.(Try one another review for that, p'haps?)The verdict then, finally:Because of aforementioned cable matters, + the tray's flimsy feel, and the - for me, at least - wayyy slow(ish) file transferring, I was gonna give this baby just 2 stars....But I'm going with 3 outta 5 after all - 'cos Dainty here (still) offers plenty oomph for pretty few dollars.
