  • Triggers on all CFCs, HFCs, HCFCs and blends. More sensitive to some refrigerants than others.
  • 15-hour rechargeable, user replaceable battery. It lasts almost two full workdays on a single charge (if your hunting down leaks all day). You can also use it while it's hooked up to the wall or vehicle charger.
  • Filter system helps protect the sensor from moisture and other contaminants. The sensor is connected to the body at the other end of the snout. The filter is at the tip of the snout. If you accidentally hit some condensation or oil, the filter swells, shutting off the pull to the sensor and protecting it from failure.
  • Manual or automatic zeroing. It auto zeros every two seconds until a leak triggers the sensor. After that you can manually zero the detector to help further pinpoint leaks.
  • Up and running in 30 seconds. Some heated elements and corona discharge units take much more time to warm up. UV dyes can take several hours to travel through a running system and can degrade system components.

The SRL8 Heated Diode Refrigerant Leak Detector is designed exclusively to make the HVAC/R Technician's job easier, faster, safer and more efficient. We set out to develop the best heated diode leak detector for HVAC/R. We believe the SRL8 is it. It comes in kit form in a rugged, blow-mold case with all of the extras you don't get from the other guys.

BEEP IS TOO HIGH FREQUENCY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE HEARING LOSS. CANNOT HEAR HIGH FREQUENCY SO I HAVE TO DEPEND ON LIGHTS ONLY.

This Device Works as Stated . It is easy to use and finds the leak better than any of the many hand held units I have owned in the past . This is definitely a product that I would recommend . Worth the price!!

Update: Fieldpiece SRL8 is a freak’n piece of crap!!! I hate it!!! Buyer beware!!!Update: Have used the SRL8 for 1 1/2 yrs, now the diode is bad. Freaking unreliable piece is S@&$!!! Wouldn’t buy another!Have used the SRL-8 on R22, R404, R134a & R410a for the past 3 1/2 months. Workes great, very sensitive!HOWEVER, I recently used bubble soap (Ajax dish soap & water) on an A-Coil PRIOR to using the Fieldpiece detector. When using the Fieldpiece detector it alarmed on every place that had been sprayed with bubble soap. To confirm my suspicions I opened the top of my bubble soap spray bottle and waved my Fieldpiece detector over the open container. It alarmed instantly.I called Fieldpiece Technical rep and described this issue. I was asvised that bubble soap and dish soap contain trace amounts of Florine (unconfirmed as far as I can tell at this point) and that the Fieldpiece detects these trace amounts of Florine.Since then I have also tested Dawn dish soap with the very same results. In any case, I now know that the leak detector has to be used before any form of bubble soap... Doesn't sit very well with me given the amount I paid for this unit!

I ordered this though Test Equipment Depot and these guys are great! Prompt shipping and delivery. I have yet to use my SRL8 at this point, but I have used my co-workers and it made my job much simpler and efficient. No more wasting time pumping down or recovering the system, then charging with nitrogen and spraying every joint with bubble solution. Just check the system with the charge in it (granted that there's enough refrigerant in the system), find the leak and confirm it with bubbles (seems more fool-poof that way). I'll update later after a few uses with mine.

I am a BMW technician and find myself wishing I had a really good device for detecting those very hard to find leaks that my old Mactco unit would not. Most freon leaks I am able to locate visually but sometimes there are leaks that need further investigation and this Fieldpiece is perfect for those hard to find leaks. Once you turn it on it is ready to go after about 30 seconds. This leak detector has been able to locate every leak that the Matco was not. I have never needed to adjust the sensitivity level but it can. I love the built in user replaceable rechargeable battery with both a wall charger and car charger if needed. The unit also comes with replaceable filters and a narrow long reach tube for small hard to get to piping. The unit comes with its own case and the leak detector itself is built very rugged and grips great. One last thing I would like to mention is that it has a built in magnet on the back so you can let it hang if needed. All in all I could not find a better deal. Thanks

A little pricey but it seems to be worth the money so far. After reading reviews of various types of detectors available and talking with a couple of other people I settled on the Fieldpiece. I've only used it a couple times so far but it has been able to find very slow leaks in systems that take a couple weeks or more to loose pressure. It seems to be well made and comes with everything you need.

I've used this on five vehicles, my two heatpumps and several fridges. It's amazingly sensitive. It picked up a microscopic leak in my wife's car...the leak is so small, we weren't even aware that there was an issue. And the time savings in hunting down an obvious leak makes it well worth the money. Why waste time and money making guesses on where the leak is, or going through everthing in an attempt to fix the problem when you can just use this tool? Save yourself a few hours of work and this tool pays for itself (depending on how you value your time). Also durable enough to last with a slob like me.

this is a really good detector. not having to move the detector except to clear it to show customer it actually is picking up thier refrigerant is a good feature to me. I dont have to worry about nusiance trips or false trips which instantly looses you credibility with the customer. Its does not go off unless it is on a leak at the coil (or if you get the head wet) Comes with extra filters just in case you do. have had this for about 7 months and have used about 3 of the filters. It probably has about 15 or 200)
