Gates patented strap wrench is specifically designed to grasp and hold automotive SAE Micro-V belt driven pulleys. The Micro-V wrench grasps the pulley just as an accessory drive belt does when driving an accessory component. Moreover, the action of the tool head pressing back on the component provides unparalleled protection, preventing costly damage. Improve efficiency, reduce component damage and avoid injury by opting for the simple-to-use solution.

If you’re doing a stretch belt swap yourself, you must use this kit and save yourself the trouble.

This worked well on a 2017 Subaru STI. I suggest finding videos online to familiarize yourself with how to use this. Turning the engine over is the easy part, the stretch belt will be very tight, but will get into place. This came in a bag that had torn at some point I assume while in Amazon's hands and the included bolt was lost, fortunately I had an equivalent bolt to use.

Worked a treat to install the ac belt on a 2009 Subaru Impreza. Watch the gates video on how to use the tool. Only gripe is the price for a tool I will only ever use once or twice.

It works so easy. I tried to put the belt without the kit,but is does not work. When I have the kit, only 2 mins belt is on.

Works as it should. Take care when using very flimsy but that being said this tool if used correctly with the right belt should last a long time.

I was a little hesitant paying as much for an installation tool as I was for the two belts I was replacing, but man was it worth it. This made replacing the stretch belt so easy that I actually overshot the intended installation location by one groove. I simply slide the tool back on, rotated the engine while gently pulling on the belt and it easily slid from one groove to the other. I could have wrestled this for a good 45 minutes, but with this tool it was done in about 5.As others have said, a 22 mm (1/2" drive) socket and a 1/2 inch ratchet make this a lot easier. I could have used a 1/2" breaker-bar, but your range of motion is somewhat limited so I would have had to reposition it multiple times.

I own a 2010 Subaru Forester and I needed to replace the belts A/C, P/S ,Alt, the first belt has an adjustment bolt for loosening and replacing the belt, but the second belt is a "stretch belt", this means you WILL NOT replace this belt without some special tool [I tried] or getting it replaced by a mechanic of your choice. After doing some research, I found the Gates 91031 Engine Tool, ordered it and after going over the instructions ON LINE , the ones that come with the tool kit are interesting.... just some pictures. I installed the belt in minutes, went on slick as a whistle.Would I buy this tool again? YES.Would I recommend this tool for other capable mechanics? YES.

I was told at the dealer that my belts needed changing, saying they were cracked. I opted out from them and then looked online. I picked up both belts (Gates) and this tool after looking at some YouTube how-to videos. Worked like a charm on my 2009 Subaru Forester. The original belts did not appear as cracked as some I have seen on my other cars, but it was time to do it as I just turned over 100,000 miles! You will need a 22mm socket to turn the main pully. I was considering buying a breaker bar, but a pipe on the end of a 1/2" socket did the job.
