Absolutely necessary for small engine repair and trouble shooting. Simple immediate answer, Spark or NO Spark.Engine does not have to be running , install this little device, pull the starter, make sure lights are off, filament will either GLOW or it won't. Its that easy. Can't believe I didn't have one of these a long time ago.

Once I used a pliers to slightly close up the end to attach to the spark plug it worked great. I was having what I thought might be an ignition problem with a Briggs Intel V Twin causing a loss of power while mowing only after warm up I ordered this tester. At first it lit up dimmer on one side and after warmup it no longer lit up on that side. Easy check out tool. Better than removing heads, which was next step.

Cheap, not only in price, but also the quality. Pay a bit more and get a better brand or quality.

Having idle/misfire problems with son's 1990 Mazda. Threw the usual parts at it, plugs, wires, distributor, coil, fuel filter. Still having problems. Listened to injectors (fine), checked MAF sensor, replaced O2 sensor, still problems.Bought this, hooked up to a good car, the light flickers low along with the spark. Hooked it up to mazda, it does the same, but seems to miss some flickers, and also flickers relatively BRIGHTLY (relatively - best viewed in the dark) now and then, all cylinders. So it was spark all along! I traced it back to a bad condenser. Runs great now!I wish I had this tool at the beginning. It would have saved me a lot of effort. Now I know, and so do you.And yes, I wil work on "coil on plug", or whatever you have, as long as it has a spark plug, you are good to go.

I bought this a few months back and it has been hanging on the peg board. My push mower wouldn't start the other day so I broke out the tester to see if I had a fuel or an ignition issue. I hooked up the tester and turned over the engine, and lo and behold I saw a spark on the first pull. Others had complained that the spark on the tester was not bright enough to see. I didn't find that to be the case at all. I was in my driveway on a relatively sunny day and I could see it clearly. I'm sure you could spend more for the same product. This works fine as far as I'm concerned.

seems to work like it should, it is hard for me to see the light when testing although I am testing an outboard motor not a car so this may be why. I had to grind the tip down to a smaller diameter for it to fit inside the metal part of the plug boot, when I first attempted to use it it would not fit tightly into the boot and my attempt to hold it in place got me shocked... DO NOT hold this item while testing for spark, you will get poked! once I filed the tip down to fit it works fine.

Installing this is really easy. Simply unplug your spark plug wire, slip the boot of the tester over your spark plug, and then plug the long end of the tester into the original spark plug wire. Then start your motor (or try to). This device works fine on my 2-cycle motor - but the light did not light up very much. If you are in direct sunlight you will not be able to see it.Solution:Put your motor in the shade and you should be able to see this.
