This is a nice starter set of spade drills. They cut wood well and it comes in a nice variety of sizes. I’ve used them a few times now and the results are as expected. I haven’t noticed any significant dulling of the blades, but the nice thing with spade bits is that they are fairly easy to sharpen. My only issue is the hex extender. It isn’t a solid fit and honestly I just chuck these items up in my drill and go to town.

This is my first time using a set of self-feeding paddle bits and I'm still not sure if I like them better than the non self-feeding bits. The self-feeding feature does help the bit to get started easier, but it also can cause the bit to bind up worse than the non self-feeding type of bit.Jorgensen is a quality brand name and that's why I decided to give these a try, and I do like the quality of the bits, but I think I may go back to my non self-feeding bits for many use cases because they are not as bad to bind up, but to each their own.

These spade drill bits come in a textile case that has a loop closure. I like the case because it actually holds the bits in place, so you don't lose them when carrying it. It features a nice selection of spade bits that should just about any project you have. They also include a quick-change adapter which would be handy if you are using a standard drill. This is a good value for a set like this.

While I have used spade bits on and off for decades, this is the first self-feeding set of spade bits I have ever used. I have been wanting to try this type of bit for some time and when I saw this set being available, I ordered it. I used a Milwaukee, corded 8-amp drill with these spade bits. This set of bits comes in a very nice storage case. It holds the bits in place very well. I opened up the case and I started with the smaller spade bits first. I drilled through some 3/4" pine and the bits went through pretty quickly. I drilled though a 2x6 and I thought the spade bits did a pretty decent job. The quick change bit holder worked well and made changing the bits in and out really easy.Everything was going pretty well until I got to the larger drill bits. I jumped right up to the larger bits and went first to the 1 3/8” and the 1 1/2" bits right off. I did not like them. I have enough sense to know that on drill bits, especially self-feeding bits is to let the drill do the work. I didn’t push these bits. I let them pull themselves. This worked with the smaller bits. These larger bits pulled themselves into the wood and I really had to hang onto that drill. They got down about 3/4 of the way through a 2x6 and just jammed. It jerked the drill out of my hands and locked up the motor. I backed the drill off and I tried varying the speed of the drill to try and find a comfortable speed that would work better but these larger bits just had a heck of a time getting through this wood. I gave up even trying the other bits over one inch in size. I did not care for these larger bits at all. I have never had a spade bit seize up on me like that before, never!I thought this would be a fast job reviewing these drill bits but I ended up trying them on and off again over several days. I was sure that because these self-feeding spade bits were new to me that it must be me but after a while, I quit! These larger bits, I’m just not happy with them at all. In fact, I went and got my cheap set of spade bits and the larger bits in that cheap set worked better than these. I wanted to see if it was something I was doing wrong and it isn’t me. I don’t know if I will ever try another set of self-feeding bits again. I didn’t like the way they very quickly pull themselves into the wood and just jam. I thought it was going to burn my drill up! You know, most of the time that I use these spade bits it is to drill through thick wood, usually 2x6’s. I have never had anything like this happen to me before. I have had bits that had trouble getting through wood before but never jerking the drill out of my hands and jamming. These are brand new bits. They look like very nice quality bits. I mean, they’re Jorgensen for gosh sakes. The name is the first thing that got my attention. Their clamps are great so, I thought these spade bits would be just as good. The smaller bits I feel worked okay. Nothing bent or broke even on the larger bits. I didn’t see any burning on the wood or on the bits. The only smoke I seen was coming out of my drill when it jammed!

These drill Brit’s are much cheaper and still of great quality compared to Diablo and other brands . I highly recommend them to any contractor or pro !

This is a very nice set of paddle bits. The case is surprisingly useful as well. The bits really nice clean hole, and they don't jump around when they are starting. They seem to be holding up well showing no signs of premature wear.

Jorgensen makes good tools, and these are pretty nice spade bits. As with all bits, these don't last forever, which is why it's good to have a set on hand. Nice case for storage. The quick-connect hex makes these work in both my regular drill and in the impact driver I use more often now. The threaded point also helps with a clean start to any hole by preventing the bit from wandering.
