When my now forty year old daughter was a toddler, I took her to the park to fly a kite. It reached impressive heights, but the string was not tethered to the core, and I had to watch my kite fly off so far it couldn't be seen. (If you think it odd that I remember this, keep in mind that such humiliations make a mark in one's memory.)This product is perfect. How do I know? I unrolled all 500 feet to make sure of the tether. It was there.

The kite string is strong and works really well. The plastic spool isn't so great though and I'm trying to find something else to wrap the kite string around.

This is hard to explain. The point is that this is not actually a toy as such. It isn't something you could have much fun with on it's own unless you were a kitten. It's a spool of cord. It needs something else to make it work, such as - oh, I don't know - a kite perhaps? As a kite controller it works just fine and is strong enough to drag a 4-year old screaming with terror all the way across the compost heap and into the pig pen. I'm guessing actually. I do have a 4-year-old niece but neither compost heap nor pig pen. Plenty of brambles though.

What I like about it:1. Amount of line2. High test3. Durable brass swivel to easily attach kitesWhat I don't like:1. The line becomes twisted very easily and has a tendency to form nests2. I have large (man) hands, so the spool is difficult to hold firmly (Especially with wet, sweaty, or sunscreen-smeared hands)3. Reeling in 200 yards of line with your hands is tiring for anyone...would be much easier with some sort of crankOverall...for the price it's not bad, but definitely not the best.

This product was NOT what was described. The description is BRAIDED POLYESTER. The product received was TWISTED NYLON. I bought it because I wanted BRAIDED line for knot holding and handling. I also wanted line made from POLYESTER--it stretches less and has better UV resistance. If you just want some line on a spool go for it. If you want what's in the description--look elsewhere.

funny story - i was flying a big kite (7'x20') in high wind using this line. probably should not have done that. i was at a beach on lake erie in central ohio. the reel slipped out of my hand and the kite, line and reel flew down the beach about a 1/2 mile away and got caught in some trees. the kite stayed aloft the entire time until the wind died later that night. the next day, i had to pull the kite out of the water - it was extended the full lenght of the line. the kite was scraping along the bottom of the lake and probably submerged under sand. it took some effort but i was able to pull the kite out using a broken tree branch as a winch. the line did not break or snap. i had to throw out that line becasue it was wrapped up in the tree branch that i had to use or else my hand would have been shredded. good times.i bought more line.

i am very pleased with the quality of this string and spool. i was looking for a high wind test strength combined with a spool that doesn't break apart. this surpassed all my expectations. comes with an attached hook to fasten your kite, and you are ready to go! reels all the way out and is attached at the end, unlike some spools where you would lose your kite if you hadn't checked first. what more could you ask for? this will be my go-to spool from now on!

Running a 7.5 over 500' in stiff winds might put some doubt in your mind as to whether or not you will get your kite back. No question! Kite string works and letting out 6-700 feet is no problem. Although winding it all back up can make your arms ache. :/
